After losing Ladarius Hamilton to the Packers this past week, the Bucs are adding a familiar face to the practice squad. According to The Athletic’s Greg Auman, OLB Elijah Ponder is returning to the Bucs. Ponder impressed during preseason action, but was one of the team’s final cuts.

The undrafted rookie out of Cincinnati had a couple big tackles in the preseason in short-yardage situations, but lost out on a practice squad spot to Hamilton. The Packers swooped in to sign Hamilton to their active roster this past week, opening a spot for Ponder. The 23-year old made the switch from defensive tackle to outside linebacker during training camp, and showed promise. Ponder is ultra-physical with good pop in his hands and better dip around the edge than expected.
The Bucs now have five outside linebackers on their team, with four on the active roster and Ponder the lone practice squad player. Tampa Bay’s practice squad is now full, as the unit returns to 16 players.
