The Bucs made a couple of roster moves on Wednesday ahead of Sunday’s game against the visiting Cincinnati Bengals. The Bucs signed cornerback Anthony Chesley from the practice squad to the active roster and signed free agent outside linebacker Hamilcar Rashed Jr. to the practice squad.

The addition of Chesley was necessary because the Bucs will be without starting cornerback Jamel Dean on Sunday. Dean suffered a big toe injury against the 49ers.

Chesley (6-0, 190) was signed to Tampa Bay’s practice squad on Sept. 1, 2022, and has remained with the Buccaneers all season. Chesley was elevated for Weeks 6-7 before being placed on Practice Squad Injured Reserve on Oct. 27. He was later activated from Injured Reserve on Nov. 29 and was elevated again in Week 13.

Since entering the league as a college free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2019, Chesley has appeared in 15 career games over three seasons between the Houston Texans (2020), Indianapolis Colts (2021) and Buccaneers (2022), totaling five tackles and one fumble recovery, in addition to two special teams tackles. The Temple Hills, Maryland, native played four collegiate seasons at Coastal Carolina (2015-18), appearing in 42 career games. He wears No. 37 for Tampa Bay.

Bucs Add Pass Rusher To Practice Squad

Rashed Jr. was one of eight players who worked out for the Bucs on Tuesday.

Rashed Jr. (6-2, 251) entered the league as a college free agent with the New York Jets in 2021. He spent his rookie season on New York’s practice squad, appearing in one game and recording one tackle. He remained with the Jets until he was waived on Aug. 9, 2022. Most recently, Rashed spent time on the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad in Week 1 before he was waived on Sept. 7, 2022.

The Phoenix, Arizona, native played 43 games at Oregon State (2016-20), where he tallied 143 tackles, 16.5 sacks, seven passes defensed, four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Rashed earned second-team Associated Press All-America honors in 2019 after recording 14.0 sacks, which tied for the third-most in the country that season. He will wear No. 46 for Tampa Bay.
