During the first day of joint practices with the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday it appears the Bucs may have suffered another injury to their wide receiver room. Veteran receiver Russell Gage pulled up with a hamstring injury while conducting 1-on-1 drills.

Gage, who signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Bucs this past offseason figures to be a big part of the team’s offense in 2022. With outside and slot versatility, Gage is able to play multiple roles within offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich’s system.
With the injury to Gage the Bucs receiver depth is already being tested. Three of the team’s top four options are dealing with lower body ailments. Last week Mike Evans tweaked his hamstring as well. Bucs receiver Chris Godwin is also coming back from a torn ACL suffered late last season. He has not begun participating in team drills as of yet.
This will give plenty of reps to the team’s depth options at the position. There are a slew of players are vying for limited slots on the roster. Scotty Miller, Breshad Perriman, Tyler Johnson, Cyril Grayson Jr., Jaelon Darden and Deven Thompkins are all competing to make the team’s final 53-man roster.
Late last season as the Bucs were entering the playoffs the receiver room was besieged by injuries as well. General manager Jason Licht attempted to address depth concerns by adding Gage as well as fellow veteran Julio Jones. It appears that effort may have been foreboding given the current state of injuries already.
