Latest Bucs Headlines

The Bucs returned home on Sunday afternoon unbeaten and facing a winless Broncos squad. Tampa Bay got nixed of the chance to start the season 3-0, losing 26-7 over Denver. Now that they are 2-1, the team is not riding as high as they once were. There were not a ton of positives from Sunday afternoon, but here are this week’s most impressive players.

RB Bucky Irving

Bucky Irving started to break runs in the second quarter. It started with a big 32-yard run down the right sideline after David’s forced fumble, which again elicited ‘Bucky, Bucky, Bucky!’ chants from the home crowd.

Check out Irving’s arsenal of moves.

On the same drive, he added a 13-yard run that got the offense down to the one-yard line which eventually ended in a touchdown from wide receiver Chris Godwin.

Drafted for his elusiveness and big-play ability, it was again on display in this one. With Irving (9-70) again outperforming Rachaad White(6-17), the time to make the rookie the No. 1 running back is drawing closer. It is not about making a competition where there is not one, it is about sticking with the hot hand and the more successful option.

CB Zyon McCollum

Outside of allowing a 31-yard completion to Josh Reynolds in the first quarter, Zyon McCollum had a great day in coverage and came close to adding to his interception total.

The 6-foot-2 cornerback held his own against wide receivers Courtland Sutton and Josh Reynolds throughout the game and added five tackles. Jamel Dean was heavily targeted and got lit up, but Bo Nix did not have much success throwing McCollum’s way.

That is telling — and a sign that the third-year cornerback continues to make strides and is the team’s best cornerback.

WR Chris Godwin

Like the United States Postal Service, Chris Godwin keeps delivering — except Godwin does it on Sundays.

In a scoreless game, he brought in a contested lob pass from Baker Mayfield in the left corner of the end zone.

In hauling in his third touchdown catch of the season, Godwin already surpasses last year’s regular season total. While the Bucs’ offense struggled in the first half, the star wide receiver keeps making his case for a bigger payday this offseason.

P Jake Camarda

Jake Camarda was not perfect, but he rebounded from some struggles early on. His first punt was a 67-yard boot, and he pinned the Broncos inside the 20-yard line twice. Camarda still has to work on his consistency, but not many punters can match his combination of power and accuracy when he is on.

ILB Lavonte David

Lavonte David came through when the Bucs needed him most. David has long been a catalyst for the team, and he made a big play before halftime.

The Broncos had the ball up 17-0 when David jarred the ball loose from running back Javonte Williams. The fumble was recovered by defensive tackle Logan Hall and resulted in Tampa Bay getting back in the fight with a touchdown.
