Latest Bucs Headlines

The Bucs got back into the win column and snapped a two-game losing streak on Sunday with a 21-15 win over the visiting Falcons. Tampa Bay now has a two-game lead in the NFC South division with victories over New Orleans and Atlanta. Tom Brady and the Bucs’ passing game powered the offense, while Tampa Bay’s run defense rebounded against a very good Atlanta run game.

Here are this week’s most impressive Bucs as Tampa Bay improved to 3-2 on the year.

QB Tom Brady

Brady started off the game 0-for-3 and then rebounded quickly. The Bucs continued to struggle running the ball, but turned to the passing game and found a huge amount of success against an overmatched Falcons secondary. Brady completed 24-of-33 passes for 256 yards in the first half and kept firing away in the second. He hit Fournette with a 1-yard touchdown pass and gave Tampa Bay a 21-0 lead after a 2-point conversion pass to Russell Gage. The offensive line play was hit-and-miss, but Brady was on the mark for the most part. He finished 35-of-52 for 351 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.

RB Leonard Fournette

Fournette had his most productive day of the season in the win over the Falcons, and he made more of a mark as a receiver than a runner. He had five catches for 55 yards at halftime, including a 21-yard catch-and-run to get the Bucs into field goal range for Ryan Succop’s 44-yarder. Fournette had a season-high 10 catches for 83 yards and one touchdown to lead all Bucs receivers. On the ground, Fournette had 56 yards rushing and a 1-yard TD.

DB Antoine Winfield Jr.

Winfield was the best player on the field for the Tampa Bay defense on Sunday. He had a tackle for a four-yard loss on rookie running back Tyler Allgeier and a hard hit that broke up a pass early on to get himself going. Winfield racked up three tackles in the first quarter and finished with a team-high eight stops. He had a key sack on the Falcons’ final drive before halftime, forcing a fumble. That kept Atlanta off the scoreboard in the first half as Tampa Bay built a 13-0 lead.

WR Chris Godwin

Godwin started the game hot with three catches for 31 yards, including a 20-yarder in the first quarter. Brady then hit Godwin for a gain of 18 yards right before halftime for a big first down. He had five catches for 58 yards after two quarters and a two-yard run. Godwin played sparingly in the second half and had one catch for three yards.

WR Mike Evans

Evans had two catches for 32 yards at halftime, including a 25-yard grab. He hauled in a 40-yard strike from Brady with 6:12 left in the third quarter to set up a 1-yard TD pass to Fournette on the next play. Evans finished with four catches for 81 yards.

TE Cade Otton

Otton had the most productive game of his NFL career, catching six passes for 61 yards. Filling in for injured starter Cam Brate, Otton had five catches for 40 yards, including a 12-yarder, in the first half.

OLB Joe Tryon-Shoyinka

Tryon-Shoyinka entered Sunday’s game with half a sack on the season, and notched his first full QB capture when he dropped Marcus Mariota on third down to force a punt on Atlanta’s first drive. He lost contain on a couple of plays, including one 16-yard scramble by Mariota on third down. Tryon-Shoyinka also had a great pressure and near-sack of Mariota on a third down with 5:55 left in the second quarter. Tryon-Shoyinka finished with two tackles.

K Ryan Succop

Succop has continued his hot start to the 2022 season. He nailed two field goals from 21 yards and 44 yards against the Falcons. Succop came into Sunday’s game hitting 90% of his field goals (9-of-10). He’s now connecting on 91.6% (11-of-12) of his field goals and remains perfect on his extra points this year.
