According to The Athletic’s Greg Auman, the Bucs are waiving tight end Tanner Hudson. The three-year pro had spent his entire career in Tampa Bay since being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2018. Hudson is the second of two known roster cuts for the Bucs, with CB Antonio Hamilton being the first.
Bucs are waiving tight end Tanner Hudson, their leading receiver from the first two preseason games. On the roster the last two seasons and could be claimed by another team in next few days.

Hudson played in 20 games for the Bucs over the past two seasons, catching five passes for 67 yards and zero touchdowns. A standout preseason player every year, Hudson’s struggles as a blocker kept him from ever making a big impact in Tampa Bay. Head coach Bruce Arians was recently critical of Hudson’s blocking, saying he’d “regressed” this summer.
Still, the Southern Arkansas product caught 11 passes for 129 yards this preseason, showing creativity after the catch. He’s an athletic tight end who simply wasn’t a great fit in Tampa Bay. Arians’ offense asks a lot from the tight end position as a blocker, and Hudson could never deliver. On a team that likes to use their tight ends as more primary weapons in the passing game, the 26-year old could be decently productive.
Of course, Hudson could still be back in Tampa Bay. He was released during final roster cuts last year, but was signed to the practice squad the next day. Hudson even ended up playing in 11 games in 2020.
