According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Bucs have cut safety Raven Greene with an injury settlement. The free agent signing hadn’t practiced for the Bucs in over two weeks, and missed both preseason games.

Greene was originally thought to be the favorite to replace the departed Andrew Adams this season. The veteran safety came to Tampa Bay after three seasons in Green Bay, where he mostly served on special teams. However, Greene did find his way onto the field last season on defense, playing 324 snaps over ten games. Greene picked up 44 tackles, an interception, two sacks and five pass breakups for the Packers, but also missed eight tackles and allowed over 72 percent of his targets to be completed, per Pro Football Focus. He played mostly around the box and was rarely used in deep coverage.
Shortly into training camp, it became clear that Greene was behind Javon Hagan on the depth chart. The James Madison product made little impact in practice before an injury sidelined him early in camp.
If the Bucs keep four safeties, the competition will come down to Hagan or Chris Cooper. Hagan is in the lead for the fourth safety spot, but Cooper has flashed recently.
The Bucs play their final preseason game on Saturday night at 8 pm against the Houston Texans.
