Latest Bucs Headlines

When it was announced that the No. 4 seed Bucs would square off with the No. 5 seed Eagles next Monday night, that seemed to be good news for both sides as they would have an extra day to rest up and recover from some injuries — especially to their quarterbacks.

As for the Eagles, they got some good news on Monday morning, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Quarterback Jalen Hurts underwent X-rays that found no fracture in his middle finger after he suffered a dislocation in Sunday’s loss to the Giants.

It certainly didn’t look right, but it’s good news for Hurts and the Eagles that there’s no fracture. He said Sunday that he’ll take it day by day, and the extra day before the Monday night game could help. If Hurts is unable to play, backup quarterback Marcus Mariota would start in his place. Mariota finished Sunday’s game and went 13-of-20 for 148 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He also ran six times for 46 yards.

The Eagles have some other injuries to keep an eye on throughout the week and they already got some tough news on Sunday night as rookie safety Sydney Brown tore his ACL. Wide receiver AJ Brown, safety Reed Blankenship and guard Cam Jurgens all left Sunday’s game with injuries as well.

NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark reported Monday that AJ Brown was feeling better Monday and that the team was awaiting his MRI results. Brown wasn’t on crutches as the team entered the locker room after Sunday’s game.

How Have Bucs Fared Against Jalen Hurts In Past Meetings?

Jalen Hurts had his coming-out party last year as he led the Eagles to the Super Bowl. He has taken a step back this year, though, and now heads into a playoff matchup against a Bucs team that he has seen three times before. He’s struggled through the air against Tampa Bay, but has still found success on the ground.

The first came in the 2021 regular season, when he completed just 12 of his 26 passes for 115 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He did more damage with his legs in that game, rushing for 44 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. The Bucs won that game in Philadelphia by a score of 28-22.

The Bucs then saw Hurts in the 2021 Wild Card Round at Raymond James Stadium. Tampa Bay went up 31-0 in that game before winning 31-15, advancing to the next round. That day, Hurts completed just 23 of his 43 passes for 258 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions while rushing eight times for only 39 yards. He was sacked twice and hit 10 times in that game.

Hurts’ first career win against the Bucs came earlier this season, when the Eagles visited Raymond James Stadium on Monday Night Football in Week 3. Philadelphia won that ugly game 25-11, with Hurts throwing two more interceptions against Todd Bowles’ defense. He completed 23 of his 37 passes for 277 yards, a touchdown and the two picks while running 10 times for 28 yards and a score.

The Bucs will host the Eagles again during the 2024 regular season, as the team’s opponents were finalized with the results of Sunday’s games.

But before that, Hurts will be looking to even things up with the Bucs next Monday night, though the condition of the middle finger on his right throwing hand could affect him depending on how the week goes.
