Bucs head coach Todd Bowles was all smiles following his team’s 30-7 win over a bad, two-win Giants team in New York.

And why shouldn’t he be?

Bowles’ defense played very well, holding the Giants to just one touchdown and forcing a turnover in the red zone as Tampa Bay snapped a four-game losing streak. It was the first win after a bye week for the Bucs with Bowles as the head coach, and it came at a great time.

Tampa Bay improved to 5-6 with the victory and gained some ground on 6-5 Atlanta, who is currently atop the NFC South and has the tiebreaker advantage over the Bucs thanks to a season sweep. The Falcons had a bye this week.

Following the game, Bucs head coach Todd Bowles addressed his team and after snapping a four-game losing streak and it was clear that his message coming out of the bye week was to develop a killer instinct. Tampa Bay gave up just seven points in New York, which was the fewest points allowed this season by the defense.

“Hey guys, great focus coming out of the bye,” Bowles said. “That’s how we wanted to start the second half. Obviously we’ve got to finish the ballgame, right? We talked about the killer instinct. We’re only halfway there. We’ve got six more of these. We’ve got to play the same way. But at the end of the ballgame, let’s finish them out. Let’s finish them out. But a hell of a way to start after the bye week. See you tomorrow. Take it home.”

Bowles then turned the team over to longtime team captain inside linebacker Lavonte David, who implored his teammates to “keep on fighting.”

“Way to come out here and way to work, way to finish,” David said. “Let’s keep on fighting. Keep stacking them up. Keep stacking them up. Stay together through the course through the whole thing. Let’s go – family on three.”
