WFLA News Channel 8 sports anchor Dan Lucas sits down with Bucs head coach Todd Bowles after each Tampa Bay game to assess the outcome in a segment called Bucs With Bowles. This exclusive content can be found on the WFLA YouTube channel and on PewterReport.com.

Following the Bucs’ 27-14 loss to the 49ers that dropped Tampa Bay to 4-6 on the season, Lucas and Bowles hit on several topics in their interview. Highlights include:

Todd Bowles on the loss at San Francisco:

“We had opportunities. They made some plays early. We made some plays, we just didn’t make enough. We had to play mistake-free football. The penalties, went down we got 0 in the red zone twice. Toward the end of the ball game we thought we could have punched it in. We didn’t punch it in. You know guys got nicked up. Other guys came in. Very talented football team, but we felt like we had our chances.”

Todd Bowles on keeping the game close in the second half:

“We fought. You know guys played injured. Guys fought. Guys played hard. We didn’t execute some things on defensive at the started the third quarter. We didn’t execute offensively in the red zone. But we had our chances, and we understand that and we can get better from that.”

Todd Bowles on playing so many rookies vs. the 49ers:

“They did well. We had six, seven guys rookie-wise defensively in the ball game. About three or four of them on offense, so they performed well. It wasn’t too big for them. They played fast. They played hungry and I like where they’re at.”

Todd Bowles on the two-sack game by Bucs rookie OLB YaYa Diaby:

“Yaya’s one of them. Some of them take a year. Some of them take less than that. Some of them take more than that. But he’s hitting his stride right now. He’s really in a good place. He’s figured out the defense and he’s playing faster, and he’s playing strong and he’s making plays.”

Todd Bowles on the team running out of time for a playoff push:

“We have to start stacking wins. That’s the only way you can play. You want to play meaningful games in late November, December. We’re one game out. We all have to play this round robin tournament. We have to be ready to stack games together. If we take care of ourselves we’ll be fine. We can’t look ahead. We just have to look at Indy.”
