WFLA News Channel 8 sports anchor Dan Lucas sits down with Bucs head coach Todd Bowles after each Tampa Bay game to assess the outcome in a segment called Bucs With Bowles. This exclusive content can be found on the WFLA YouTube channel and on PewterReport.com.
Following the Bucs’ 27-17 victory over the Bears that propelled Tampa Bay to a 2-0 start, Lucas and Bowles hit on several topics in the six-minute interview. Highlights include:
Todd Bowles on the 25-11 loss to the Eagles:
“When I left the stadium last night I thought it was worse than it was. We have some self-inflicted wounds – granted they’re a good team they’re good on both sides of the ball – we have some self-inflicted ones on special teams offense and defense and against a good team like that it can’t happen.”
Todd Bowles on how the Bucs covered the Eagles receivers:

“I thought over the YAC – yards after the catch – that really bothered me. We’ve got to be able to tackle better or you know, they can catch the ball, but we’ve got to get them down right there. A 5-yard play can’t go for another 15 or something like a 3-yard play can’t go for 12. I thought we did a not a very good job tackling and wrapping up after the catch.”
Todd Bowles on not getting enough pressure on Eagles QB Jalen Hurts:
“He had too much time on that play, but we missed him another four times. I mean guys had him in the grasp and guys were clean that came through. He’s such an athletic guy we knew where he was escaping to, and he got there anyway. We’ve got to do a better job of keeping him in the pocket that way. We did get to him – we missed about four sacks and you know we didn’t get any.”
Todd Bowles on the Bucs’ banged up cornerbacks after the Eagles game:
“Right now from an injury standpoint it is, but we’ll see how those guys heal during the week we’ll get guys ready to play and we’ll come up with guys that can be out there and compete.”
