A day after Bucs running back T.J. Logan went down in practice with a knee injury, Tampa Bay wide receiver Johnathan Franklin III suffered a left knee injury during Friday’s practice and had to be carted off the field. Franklin was visibly upset as he was loaded on to the cart and headed off to the Bucs training room for evaluation.
Logan was diagnosed with a patellar tendon injury, which will likely cost him his 2020 season as the team will place him on injured reserve. Franklin, who was in the mix for the fifth wide receiver position before his injury, had drawn early praise in camp from head coach Bruce Arians.
“I think John Franklin and Cyril Grayson, some of the guys that were here, have a lot of athletic ability and speed, so they’re looking for their roles,” Arians said.

Franklin, who joined the Bucs last year as an undrafted free agent originally signed by Chicago last spring, was a Wildcat QB at Auburn in 2017, and was featured on the Last Chance U documentary series on Netflix while he attended East Mississippi Community College after a year at Florida State. Franklin switched to wide receiver and spent his senior season at Florida Atlantic catching passes, in addition to running some Wildcat QB for the Owls.
Franklin had one carry for 11 yards as a Wildcat QB in Tampa Bay last year in the season finale against Atlanta.
PewterReport.com will have more on Franklin’s injury after practice.
