Why do you think a new staff means losing for two to three years?
I am not sure I could take another turn over of the coaching staff, simply because, IMHO, it will be more of the same. New coaches, new philosophy, new players to fit the schemes, losing record for two/three years. This franchise needs stability and continuity, as do the fans. Believe it or not, I believe that a head coach should get 5 years in this win now league. I am sick of black mondays in the NFL, as a lot of good coaches get fired fixing the other regimes screw ups. The NFL is all about winning the Super Bowl and I get that, 'If you aren't first, you're last'. But at the end of the day, I want to see improvement in all three phases and a solid foundation being built for the long haul. I am a BIG sports fan, I have watched in all of pro sports franchises that are perennial .500 teams because of the turnover, always good but not great and sometimes really bad but never on the national sports map. I am not a Schiano apologist nor cheerleader but I am afraid the Bucs, if they do not develop a LONG term strategy and stick to it, will be stuck in the never-never land of sports.
You're not alone in this opinion. Some people who seek instant gratification tend to focus on the negatives and ignore the positives. Schiano is still learning about game management, and he still has adjustments to be made in his staff and in his roster, but he's made a huge impact on defensive weaknesses. The obvious issue now is offense and a DE to compliment McCoy. IMO Glennon has regressed in recent weeks, but the Bucs aren't losing to bad teams. From 0-8 to 4-2 is a sign of progress. Schiano and Dominik work well together in building a roster. The wins will come.

Just an opinion doc, obviously no one knows for sure. If it happens, I hope we go 14-2 and get to the Super Bowl, however, I think the fan base is tired of the same old, same old churning and false promises. As an example the Rays have a plan that they implement with zero budget wiggle room. They have been in the playoffs 4 of 6 years and a World Series. They look to be good for quite awhile. They are predictability competetive all season, despite some horrid slumps as individuals and as a team. I love the Bucs and jus want them to be competitive every week. There is plenty of blame to spread around.
I'm no fan of turnover either. But at this point I think keeping schiano would be a waste of another year. Even taking away all,the stuff I don't blame him for, nothing about him says he will ever produce more than a mediocre record. And he will be the ultimate lame duck -- not a guy with a history of success entering the season on the hot seat because of a bad prior season, but a guy who has had no success and no indication he can improve on the hot seat for a second consecutive year.I don't buy our second half "improvement" under him. I don't see a guy who is using his talent better, or making changes to make the team better. I see a lot of luck, and bad teams we barely beat. I cant vote for another year because I see nothing to tell me we will be a better team next year. I see a .500 team at best under him no matter what.

that is sort of where I am. Even at his best he seems to have a Dungy-esque approach on game day. That might work with a top 5-10 defense, but I don't know that we are close to that.
Schiano may be better suited to the front office as he seems to have a knack for identifying talent. However, after considering much of what Steve White/Sapp/Booger have said or written, I simply think Schiano is overmatched from an X's and O's perspective. Just look at @sgw94 breakdown on twitter.
Schiano took over a demoralized and beaten team that had simply given up and quit. He fielded the most proficient offense in franchise history despite having Josh Freeman at QB, and had a defense that went from worst to first in rush D. He didn't duplicate that feat with the pass D this year, but at least they're respectable and are among the league leaders in interceptions and turnovers. The issues that remain split the blame down the middle between personnel and game planning. Schianno has things to learn, no doubt, but he attacks problems with a vengeance and he gets results. Too much wrong with this team to fix it all in two years. The players are responding to him and there are fewer holes to plug. Plug the holes. Get some players back healthy. This is Schiano's team now. Let him fine tune it and get a fresh start next September. A new HC would have no clue what hidden gems Schiano has in the works. He'd be blowing things up and starting from scratch. That would set the Bucs back two or three years. Some of these guys don't have the time for that. Schiano knows these guys better than anyone.
1sparkybuc; you make a very solid point and I will go along with that thinking if Schiano can get one more win before the season ends. As much as I believe Schiano scheme does not work; you are correct the most of the Offensive line and WR's will need to be replaced in 2-3 years, so we either give it one more shot with them next year or we start dumping some now and save some money.
I think the number of wins, at this point, should mean almost nothing. The question should be do we think the current administration and coaching staff has the collective ability to make the Bucs serious contenders for a Super Bowl. My opinion is no whether the Bucs win the next two, lose the next two or split them.
Yeah, at this point the record doesn't matter at all for -- and that cuts both ways. the early losses can't really be pinned on him because of the drama and Freeman. And the late wins were such ugly things they were thoroughly unimpressive. And even IN those wins, you could see the failures in coaching, and the same issues that have plagued us all season. There really hasn't been any improvement on and fixing of the things that we did poorly back into the preseason. There's nothing to hang your hat on and say "we're going to be better because we are getting better at X,Y,Z". It's not like we started winning because we fixed things. We started winning because we played weak competition and things bounced our way. The same things that earned us losses when everything didn't bounce our way managed to eke out a few unimpressive wins when everything did bounce our way.

I'm with you guys...Although I don't think it takes 5 years to know whether you should go in a different coaching dirrection or not...to me it's 3 years (depending on circumstances of course), but after 3 years you should know what type of coach you have and whether they are an asset or not
Anything less than three years is premature IMO. The QB situation has been a huge handicap and really skews any coach's ability to showcase what he is capable of. Even with Glennon Schiano has managed to set records. I'm curious to see if Schiano is sold on him or feels a need to draft an alternative. Maybe he looks to free agency for competition. He can't just ignore the situation. Glennon is regressing.

In our current situation I think two is enough. Forget the record. Too much damage done by Freeman to try and base this on W/L. We could easily have another 2 or 3 wins if not for him. We could just as easily have another 2 or 3 losses if not for so many things falling just right for us in our wins. Just look at how we are playing. Same issues all season long. Stupid in-game coaching decisions, just like last year. Unwillingness to adapt to the talent we have. There is nothing developing on this team. No identity growing, no scheme slowly coming to life before our eyes. No flashes of potential dominance. Just stubborn old-school banging our heads against the wall. Rutgers has a vision of how ball is supposed to be played and he is going to play it that way no matter what. Unfortunately that vision was outdated around the same time as 8-track.I see a decent amount of talent on this team. And absolutely nothing from coaching that says they can or will turn that talent into legitimate play. The young guys can develop as much as they want and they still won't be used properly.

If you're talking offense, I'm with you...Schiano has made no secret that he wants a power run offense and I think we the fans underestimate the loss of Nicks and Joseph coming off a knee ...Our Oline just hasn't been good, hence the no identity on offense.I'm enjoying watching our YOUNG defense on Sundays...that side of the ball is well on its way to getting an identity. Schianos forte is defense, so he should get more credit for the defense than blame for the offense.I agree that there have been some questionable "calls" since he's arrived, but he's a first time NFL head coach so mistakes will happen, but that's how you learn and I believe he's the type of guy who will learn from his mistakes. This is why the 3 years is necessary before judging.

Good post.
