Bennett made the right move for him and now he is reaping the rewards. At a pre-Super Bowl media session:(on his mindset when he returned to Seattle for the 2013 season) “I just wanted to do the same thing I’ve always done. I wanted to improve each year and just get a chance to play on a really good team and be seen. Playing in Tampa, you’re not really on TV a lot, but, in Seattle, you’re on TV so much that people see you make those plays. (They are the) same plays that you made on the other team, but people see you make them.”(on coming to Seattle after Tampa Bay did not offer a contract) “It was frustrating, because as a player you go out there and put everything on the line for the organization, and when it’s time to get your just due and you don’t get it, you feel a certain type of way. But, at the same time, you have to put everything in God’s hands and God had a plan for me and the plan worked out good.” http://blogs.seattletimes.com/seahawks/2014/01/27/seattle-defensive-lineman-michael-bennett-i-would-love-to-stay-in-seattle/ Earlier in the year he cited Schiano: think he just wants to flex his power,” Bennett told NFL.com last fall, offering a strong opinion why Schiano’s Bucs were winless at that point. (Schiano has since been fired and replaced by Lovie Smith.) “He has small (man’s) syndrome. I still talk to guys who are there, and trust me, there’s not much respect for him in that locker room.“He’s trying to be Belichick,” Bennett continued. “Yeah, some people think Belichick’s an (expletive), but he’s a legend. When this guy acts that way, it’s a whole different deal.” http://www.nbcsports.com/michael-bennett-seahawks-sack-dance A third article, same interview:"I don't think about the money because it's not in my account," he said laughing. "You do want long-term deals, but I don't think about it as much as some people think I think about it. I think about winning the game. I'm taking it one game at a time, taking care of this moment and playing for this team. That article's take on the cool market for Bennett back then:He was coming off a nine-sack season in year four with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but turned heads around the league when he settled quickly for a below-market offer from Seattle. Ten days after his contract was announced, it was revealed that Bennett had a torn rotator cuff. Teams had been scared off about what it might to do his production and therefore an emerging talent — who can play inside and out on the defensive line — became a bargain.Hence, why the Seahawks were slow to work Bennett in. Hence, why they wish they had done it sooner. http://www.nj.com/super-bowl/index.ssf/2014/01/michael_bennett_seahawks_super_bowl.html Interesting stuff
If the following is accurate, then the Glazers have some explaining to do themselves. From SR's 1-17 chat: "The word is that Greg Schiano wanted him back, but the Glazers blocked that move."

I saw that too Sweep. Something doesnt add up. more info needed, I guess

Yeah, I would LOVE to get an explanation for that one. Do the Glazers wield veto power on every free agent signing? Are they making choices on how to build/maintain the roster? This is seriously effed up if true.
Seems a lot of folks are looking at the failure to sign Bennett. Recall a lot of folks thinking/stating that was a mistake, which now appears to be pretty clear. Insofar as the Glazers being involved - who knows. The issue was clearly the money being sought and the shoulder issue. All should have been known to the bucs well before re-signing talks occurred. Right now it is just another miss by the franchise.

If I were writing the checks, theoretically, I'd maintain the right to "veto" as well. I don't find that as much of a surprise - but I'd sure like to know what the other factors in the decision were. It's still unclear to me what Bennett was even asking the organization for contract-wise, or what Dom was prepared to give him. However if the Glazers were going all Jerry Jones on the organization and overriding the coaching staff and FO on personnel decisions, then that would make for quite a juicy story *cough*cough*MarkandScott*cough*cough*
There's more to the story apparently but no long-term deal from the Bucs, a depressed FA market generally and specifically because of the shoulder .. . and television.(i.e. exposure) From the Buc perspective though, its almost not as much about letting the guy go as it was missing so poorly on the backup plan.
As far as Bennett's backstabbing comments about Coach Schiano, that was classless and showed a lack of character.
Bennett is doing good because the defense around him is good, not like here when the decision was made not to attempt to resign him. Since our defensive scheme was so poor, I doubt that he would have been that successful. I believe the coaching staff will review the film and determine that our need might still be at CB and LB. On offense, I believe we need a big road grater and two fast WR's. A real TE is also a priority. I think we have more needs than I had previously thought.

The article states that Seattle started him off slow because of his shoulder injury. If we do the same here (or even if we do not) and the season falls apart early as it did, Bennett likely goes on IR to protect himself, he doesn't play injured on an 0-8 team, on a one year deal no less.

This is not even close to being accurate. Bennett's stats in 2012 with the Bucs and in 2013 with the Seahawks are almost identical on a per-snap basis.

Maybe, but I believe we've begun to hear comments from other players that corroborate Bennett's criticisms. I feel like he kinda filled the role of a whistleblower for an organization that was being run into the ground by Schiano.

Coach Schiano had a team playing with no quit that had been thru Freeman, MRSA, league leading injuries, personal hatred towards the coach by much of the media with total fabrications, etc. He had very little support from ownership regarding MRSA, leaving him to answer the majority of questions about it. Very little support from ownership regarding Freeman, making Schiano explain the daily saga without being able to tell all he knew. It would have been a different story had the Glazers and or Mark D. allowed Schiano to bring in Carson Palmer....who wanted to be here. Also very probable SR has it right regarding Schiano wanting Bennett.Gerald McCoy was very outspoken during the season giving respect to Coach Shiano. Since the season ended, I saw Jay Glazer ( there's that name again) putting words in Dashon Goldson's mouth during an interview. So, two different ways of leaving. The Coach Schiano way...very gracious ( way too gracious imo) and the Michael Bennett way... backstabbing the guy who was in your corner.

That's how I feel as well, good post. But it is time to move on. I don't care about Bennett and as we're not going to be paying him 5 million a year for the next 3 to 4 years, maybe more, he's totally irrelevant when it comes to our pass rush next season.

its 2 points, you're commenting on the first, I guess. The second is spot on
