As far as Bennett's backstabbing comments about Coach Schiano, that was classless and showed a lack of character.

Maybe, but I believe we've begun to hear comments from other players that corroborate Bennett's criticisms. I feel like he kinda filled the role of a whistleblower for an organization that was being run into the ground by Schiano.

Coach Schiano had a team playing with no quit that had been thru Freeman, MRSA, league leading injuries, personal hatred towards the coach by much of the media with total fabrications, etc.  He had very little support from ownership regarding MRSA, leaving him to answer the majority of questions about it.  Very little support from ownership regarding Freeman, making Schiano explain the daily saga without being able to tell all he knew.  It would have been a different story had the Glazers and or Mark D. allowed Schiano to bring in Carson Palmer....who wanted to  be here.  Also very probable SR has it right regarding Schiano wanting Bennett.Gerald McCoy was very outspoken during the season giving respect to Coach Shiano.  Since the season ended, I saw Jay Glazer ( there's that name again)  putting words in  Dashon Goldson's mouth during an interview. So, two different ways of leaving.  The Coach Schiano way...very gracious ( way too gracious imo)  and the Michael Bennett way... backstabbing the guy who was in your corner.

I am not a Schiano hater, but there were too many reports about organizational dysfunction going as far back as training camp. Too many reports of players not liking the atmosphere. Revis recently said that guys hated showing up to OBP because of the environment. Now, that may not have been true of everybody, but it definitely jibes with what has been reported *repeatedly* about the environment there. I'm not saying that Schiano was a bad guy, at all. It just seems he was very tense, uptight, and rigid in his approach. And his schemes were a joke.I agree that Schiano was gracious in his departure. He handled everything with a lot of integrity and class. And I don't doubt that there were plenty of players who genuinely admired his toughness and consistency. I still like the guy and wish it had worked out. I wish him well in the future, but I believe we're on a better course now with Lovie. And Bennett, whether you think he was a jerk for his comments or not, appears to have been speaking for at least a significant portion of the locker room.

Bennett is doing good because the defense around him is good, not like here when the decision was made not to attempt to resign him.  Since our defensive scheme was so poor, I doubt that he would have been that successful.

This is not even close to being accurate.  Bennett's stats in 2012 with the Bucs and in 2013 with the Seahawks are almost identical on a per-snap basis.

its 2 points, you're commenting on the first, I guess. The second is spot on

Didn't Bennett have those stats with the Bucs in the same scheme?

I think that's fair enough while thinking less of Bennett for his comments. The Revis comments were far less abrasive, personal and I respect them more. Anyway, it's done and I am looking forward to the Lovie Smith era!

Lovie's predecessor put about the most disorganized and inept offense I have ever seen in the NFL after he noted all was good throughout last off season and throughout the preseason. That turned out to be wrong to the nth degree.  It would be my humble opinion that it was a good thing some veterans were signed since Morris's departure - as bunch of kids would have quit just as the buccaneer team did for Morris. Naturally I could be wrong.

Appreciate you pointing out the obvious to those that refuse to admit they were wrong about Bennett.

I can't speak for Horse obviously, but since I am in that convo . . Buggsy, just curious . . . didnt you say back then that I was crazy to say Bennett left for a bigger stage?  Didnt you say something like that?  Did you read Bennett's words in his pre-Super Bowl interview? (i.e. bigger stage). I tries to find the same interview for Clayborn . . . ???I never said Bennett was a bad player, I think I actually said he would probably do well.  my point was that there were two sides to the breakup AND that it made sense that in the sbence of a LTD he would choose Seattle over TB -- something Bennett just acknowledged in a pre-Super Bowl interview carried by multiple outlets (i.e. big stage). lol I also said the impact of his loss was likely overblown and that there had to be a reason the Bucs and the rest of the league didnt want to give him a LTD.  As I think I said at the time, the injury played a role. There are facts on both sides about the impact of his departure, as I mention belowI was definitely wrong about Bowers being a replacement, although I think the Bucs had more sacks and my comments were more about what one would expect of Bowers given his status and prior season. I was wrong, but then again so were the Bucs and they should know more than all of us about Bowers.  The real mistake wasnt just letting Bennett go, it was not replacing him . .  although, again, more sacks etc.  A point I think I also made, i.e., "let's see what they do now"all that said, the notion that Bennett has the same performance for the Bucs this season as he did for the Seahawks is pretty absurd. The Bucs start 0-8 and have a early-season controversy for the ages.  Bennett likely goes on IR under that scenario, the Seahawks even used him sparingly early according to the coach, right?  Even a fully healthy Bennett does not change the outcome of this season . . . and Bennett would be on the gold course right now with DTN and Clayborn . .  . not doing pre-Super Bowl interviewsnow, were you wrong about the "big stage", there being 2 parties involved in the split etc?  Again, I think you said I was delusional or something like that about the "big stage" . . .  and yet . . here we are.  I think you also said -- if memory serves - that your issue was why didnt they bring Bennett back at a deal like the one he signed with Seattle? Do you still think he would've taken a similar deal here? That is why you criticized my "big stage" point

What circumstances were different? Had he stayed with the Bucs, the scheme would have been the same in 2013 as it was in 2012. So I'm not sure how scheme would have been an issue if he were able to put up essentially the same stats in two different schemes or circumstances.

I was speaking of the Hawks, but even with the Bucs the circumstances (not the scheme) would'v been much different. Night and day, really. In 2012, he was a guy with something to prove playing mostly healthy, trying to get a contract, on a team that had some success but that faded late, he obviously had problems with Schiano. If he stays in 2013, he is the disgruntled guy because he didnt get his LTD, he still hates Schiano, he has his injury . . . the team has the awful start . . all the problems . . .  he likely says "F-that" and goes to IR.you can never have too many good players, but one player was not going to turn around the season and you cant just assume "x in 2012= x in 2013"  The circumstances matter

I agree with the last part but I think you're stretching the circumstances argument a tad. The biggest problem I have with the move/non move was the thought process of having Daquan Bowers be "the guy" at LDE when he had shown very little in two years. Whether Bennett or another player, there should have been a viable plan as a just in case.

we agree on that, although I was willing to give the FO and HC the benefit of the doubt on Bowers.  Talk about a big miss, unless there is more to the story.  Cullen's comments almost suggest there is and its hard to understand the depth of the Bowers fall from grace, but not expecting anything

As I just posted on the red board, I wouldn't take what the coaches say all that seriously regarding the roster at this point. They aren't going to put out there any dissatisfaction with any player without couching it in typical coach speak.

The release of Bennett will rank as one of the all time worst moves made in Buc history only exceeded by the Doug Williams fiasco, Bo Jackson, and the trading of Steve Young.  IMO    Sure could have used Bennett this year.  I am sure Bennett is smiling tremendously today!
