The history between Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr and Bucs offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford dates back to Carr's childhood when Tedford coached his older brother, David. At the Senior Bowl on Monday, Carr said he would love to be drafted by Tampa Bay and to play for Tedford. https://www.pewterreport.com/index.php?option=com_k2&Itemid=20&view=item&layout=item&id=9598

I'm sure he would and why not? Question is would the Bucs take him that high. Will they go for a Josh McCown in FA and leave it between him and Mike Glennon? I don't know. I know what I would do but I am certainly not being consulted as yet. Fortunately for my own peace of mind I do have a lot of confidence in Lovie, his staff, our scouts and our new GM. THEY make the tough choices.

I wouldn't mind drafting Carr... in the 2nd round (or later)

Scouts Inc. has Carr rated as the 48th best player in the draft. Of course he would like to go at Nr. 7. That's not news.Their lifelong relatinoship won't make him a better QB than he is. Moreover, I fully trust our staff to develop a strong relationship with whomever they draft at Nr. 7.Please, please let's not draft someone at Nr. 7 because of personal relationships. If anything, Tedford should recuse himself from ranking Carr on the Bucs board because he is biased.

Carr is showing well in Mobile.  None of any rankings take that into effect. Bottom line if the staff thinks he is a franchise level QB of course you take him at 7.

I'd rather use this draft to fill in some holes that will improve the prospects of whoever we have under center.  If another year of Glennon convinces Lovie he isn't the answer, next year looks like it should be a very good draft for QBs.

No doubt about it. You have to get that guy, the franchise QB, and if you think he's the one, you get him. That typed, I have no idea what they really think at this, or any, point.

No arguments on that. If you think he's the guy, you draft him.I would also note, though, that one should be wary of players who are ranked 48th on your Board during the season, and who shoot up your Board based on workouts and the Senior Bowl.

All comments on Carr are speaking well about his work ethic and accuracy on his throws. He has helped himself on this week.

They don't have a board during the season. They have scouting reports. Those reports will include information from the all-star games as well as the combines, pro-days etc., and they'll build the board from there.I agree that the Senior Bowl can't be everything - it's a small sample. But there are things you can learn there that you can't learn from film. For example, the Bucs learned that Tanard Jackson could effectively move from S to CB. You have to be careful about that universal board - it might include 20 players in that top 48 that we wouldn't draft, and maybe there are just 2 QBs that we rate at all. I don't worry about things like recusal for Tedford - there are tons of coaches with similar personal relationships who have passed on players because they aren't a fit. Just think last year with Doug Marrone passing on Ryan Nassib, or all the players Harbough and Carroll passed on from Stanford and USC. Butch Davis took William Green in round 1 instead of Clinton Portis, who he coached at the U. They are going to need Tedford's opinion on Carr because he's going to have to coach whoever the QB is in 2014. It's dumb to ignore his input, but he's not pulling the trigger nor do I expect him to be reckless about it.

I think what matters most is after the season is over, reviewing the entire season's tapes, the Senior Bowl, the combines and yes, the interviews. It ALL matters and NFL teams take a lot of time deciding on first round picks. Especially QB's.

I understand there is a bistory with Tedford and the Carr family - but did anyone expect Derek to come out and say anything other then he would love to play for Tedford? I mean the Bucs hold the 7th pick in the draft. Of course the younger Carr would love to play for the Bucs with Tedford on board and the team holding the 7th pick. It would mean he did enough to prove he is worthy of a first round pick and he went in the top ten if the Bucs drafted him in the first round. i just do not see him being a top ten pick  At this point it could be another year where only one QB goes int he first round. I have not been impressed with any of the QB's in this draft from a standpoint of "Can't Miss" they all have warts - some bigger than others. At this point I have them ranked in the following order: With Bridgewater being the only first rounder and not even top 10.1. Bridgewater2. Manziel3. Bortles4. Carr5. Garoppolo6. McCarron7. Zach Mettenberger

We all would like "the QB" for the ages. But we can become a winning team with the QBs we have. We need to look at our O-line at our D-line at our linebackers and TEs. As for Glennon for being a non-mobile QB with only one WR and no TEs and no O-line to speak of he did well. If we do really want a QB go for Josh McCown or another vet QB.

I agree completely.  I don't want to miss out on a chance to get a franchise QB, but I also don't want to reach for one and end up blowing a top 10 pick.  We have a lot more holes than I thought we did, not just QB.  A year ago I really thought our O-line was shaping up to be a huge strength.  Now, not so much.
