I just don't' see the Glazers trying to get Gruden to come back. I just don't get that feel that the Glazers are the type of people to admit making a huge mistake that cost the franchise five years by letting go Gruden. By essence Gruden had some big faults as well, with him and Bruce Allen at the helm we absolutely were atrocious at drafting NFL caliber players, they never had a good eye for talent. See Marquise Cooper, Nate Lawrie, Chris Colmer, Donte Nicholson, Larry Brackins, Anthony Bryant, Alan Zematitis, Julian Jenkins, Aaron Sears, Sabby Piscitelli, Dre Moore, and Dexter Jackson. That's just a few through Gruden's tenure. As much as I liked Gruden between the drafts and the revolving door at quarterback between old veterans just don't entice me to want him back at the helm. All of this and not even taking in to consideration what that dumbass Bruce Allen did by giving up huge money to Charlie Garner, Todd Steussie but releasing John lynch, and letting Warren Sapp go and resigning Booger to a ridiculous deal. I just don't see them wanting Gruden back at the helm of this team at this particular time. I do however think they may have got his opinion about some things such as maybe if he think his brother Jay is ready to be HC or if he would be interested. La Canfora is one of the last people I watch considering he kept on and on about how Mike Sherman was going to be the next HC or that we interviewed Gary Kubiak which I thought was hilarious. However, I do feel like they contacted Bill Cowher, and while they have seemed to be after him for a long time, 2009 during Raheem's first year. They just can't seem to lure him down to Tampa, which I don't think he would fit down here anyways. I have believed all along that they have been in contact with Lovie during the 0-8 start this year. I feel they all of this was worked out well before Schiano was fired. I am excited about Lovie and I think he has a had a year to sit down and really plan on what he wants to do and how to be successful this time around even though he was unemployed with a record 81-63. La Canfora is the only person reporting this story which to me means that is spectacle at best, and if the Glazers contacted anyone besides Lovie to be HC it would have been Cowher. I do however want to give props to Schiano for two things. First and foremost he was one of the best coaches developing young players that they drafted. He always seemed like he was teaching his players non-stop and while they were successful as soon as they entered the league. I also feel that he absolutely had the player's respect and they played hard for him, they never seemed like they would do anything to hurt his image or create problems especially during the rough 0-8 game skid.

So Lovie wasn't the first choice?Have we ever hired a HC who was first choice?Agree with you completely about Schiano's teaching and respect by the players. We will never know how much real damage was done to him and the team by the vicious attacks on him which later were proven to be unfounded.

Frankly, I'm stunned anybody believes La Canfora.  The guy is easily the worst "insider" out there.  Also, the info he is pushing just doesn't make much sense.

Like all reports there is probably a hint of truth. For example, it makes sense that the Glazers would see what their options were (in November) if they were not sure of the fate of Schiano. Part of the decision making on keeping a marginal coach is the availability of non-marginal coaches. It also makes sense that they would check with guys the public view as "savior" types, the PR perspective is almost their primary MO.  The problem is the way that La Canfora characterizes things . .  well, that and the fact that he is LaCanfora (lol)The funny part is they way that some treat the report.

There MIGHT be some truth to it (ie. it's not wholly illogical) but given LaCanfora's reputation, I don't understand how you can assume there's "some" truth to this. My assumption is to ignore it, unless further information from another source comes out.

who cares if lovie was first choice... he was final choice.  also, based on resume alone, of course you have to look at cowher... he has the ring.

Fans are like most women-they never forget or forgive. Many fans care whether he was first or not, if they are losers-and they will remind you of it continually.

I don't buy the Gruden part.  I'd be beyond stunned if they reached out to him.  But Dungy and Cowher?  Sure, why not.  It doesn't mean they desperately wanted one of them, but just a "Hey, hypothetically, would you be interested?"  Even if they had absolutely no interest in them, I'd hope they'd find out, just so they have all the information available to them.  If they didn't, it means they didn't do their due diligence in an incredibly important coaching search.
