Posted this on the Red Board but I'd rather discuss it here:Given what we now know of Glennon, I believe he'd be a top 10 pick in this upcoming draft. He far exceeded my expectations this year. The Bucs team as a whole was incredibly inconsistent this year. Yesterday alone, VJax dropped several easy balls, Revis got burned, our safeties were nonexistent, we had no running game, and the coaching was below average. For me the much bigger issue/question is surrounding our coach. Dude is clearly still learning on the job. You make even Whisenhunt our coach, we're a much better team.
You get no arguments there! :)
He wouldn't be a top 10 pick. Granted, he gets a bump because he's shown competency in the NFL, but if you take what his draft grade was last year, and compare it to the QBs preliminary grades this year, even with a bump, he'd be close to AJ McCarron and Derek Carr. Without a bump, the closest QB grade to him would be Aaron Murray. Is he a competent QB? Yes, he's competent. And quite frankly, based on drafting 7th, the Bucs may not get a chance to replace him this year. But this comes down to what you want out of a QB. If you want a strictly competent QB who will win only if your defense wins it, then yes, that's Glennon. But that's also Ryan Fitzpatrick. Glennon has not shown me the ability to be THE guy in his 5 years I've watched him play football. And if the Bucs have a chance to draft someone who can be the guy, and pass on him because of Glennon, that would be a mistake in my eyes.
one thing i like about Glennon is that I'm confident that he'll put in the work... whether he'll get the right coaching and development will be seen. I hope he can learn to throw when running to his left. I look forward to seeing his growth in year 2, but would also be happy to see some real competition come in.
Now looking at his body of work as a "ROOKIE" under the extreme circumstances that thrust him in to the lineup I tend to agree with those fans that Glennon has tools to work with and if he cleans up some of his mechanics on his delivery and works on his footwork in the off-season he potentially has a chance to greatly improve from year one to year two. Its hard to argue what his true ceiling is as he did not have a full offensive arsenal of talent to work with due to the injuries to Martin, Williams, Nicks, Crabtree etc...Not to mention the failed experiment of Olgetree.

I couldn't possibly agree more.That would be almost as stupid as passing on Aaron Rodgers because we had Brian Griese >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

One thing that gets somewhat overblown is whether a QB "puts in the work." I've never heard complaints about Tim Tebow's work ethic, and when Luke McCown was here you heard how much work he put into it. Peyton and Brees are notorious for their work ethic but they also have "it", which is something they showed in high school and college (1st overall pick and top of the 2nd round in spite being 6' tall). If you don't have "it" working an 80 hour week isn't going to make you a stud, just ask Greg Schiano.

The point about "putting in the work" is not that it means you will be successful if you do, it's that you won't be successful if you don't.
I don't criticize Glennon nor have I heard a lot of unfair comments on him. Like it or not, he was a rookie and a 3rd rounder. He did what was asked, and thought he did admirably. At the same time, it is a fair statement that we would be wise to bring in an upgrade. He's not perfect, but I think Cutler would be a wonderful addition to our team. From what I saw, Glennon did a lot right. He also struggled often against the blitz and was slow on some reads. That was to be expected though. He has the talent to become a really good quarterback. That being said, I believe we have the talent to make the playoffs this coming season, and a proven quarterback along with another offensive lineman improve the chances of that happening...Martin, Wright, Williams, Jackson...that's not a bad line up but NOW not later is the time to make our move.

Simms was more the issue at that point.
Before passing judgement on Glennon, let's remember what he accomplished as a rookie was pretty impressive even if it was unspectacular. He has been described as having a keen football mind, an ability to quickly grasp an offense, and an ability to command a huddle. Davin Joseph has described an 'it' factor that he noticed back in training camp... So, people are saying he's limited by his athleticism and he'll never be anything special... In terms of athleticism, he's no worse than Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. The QB position is about decision making, accuracy, and leadership. Being able to run around isn't essential. Nice to have, but not essential. Tedford is a QB guy. Let's see what Glennon can accomplish with a full offseason and a 21st century offense.
I agree that Glennon needs to be looked at pretty thoroughly by the new regime before they write him off. The kid was pretty solid this year, though now that Yucc mentions it he did seem to go into his shell a bit after a pick.To me that speaks more to how Schiano was coaching him up... even during Glennon's hot streak Schiano would talk in his press conferences about how Glennon doesn't try to do to much. One of his strong suits coming out of college from what I recall is he was willing to let it rip and trust his reads. I'm sure that can be put back into him.He has a few traits that I think will serve him well no matter what and ensure he squeezes all the talent out of himself... he's extremely bright, is OCD about his preparation - a trait all the best have, and can rip it. With the right coaching and his weapons back I think he can be viable.

So is the point of this thread that Mike Glennon won't flame out the way of Josh Freeman or is it that he will become a very good QB? Because those are two different arguments and if it seems to you that the OP was saying "hey, you guys are underestimating that Mike Glennon will not be a colossal trainwreck" then I would argue you are mistaken.
The good thing is Lovie or who ever the O.C. is has no ties to Glennon. Had Schiano come back we would've had to worry if Glennon was the guy. What's comforting is he is smart, young, has game experience, under contract cheap. He'll be great in the Q.B. room.
I think at this point the best option for us is to roll with Glennon into next year. The 2015 draft should be QB rich so we either come out of next yr knowing Glennon is our guy or we have a shot to draft our guy in 2015.I just don't think any of the QBs who will be available in our slot in the draft will be worth the pick
Should be very interesting!
