Kafka and Tanney

Just to be open about a bias I have, I still don't understand why, in a QB league, they've got things set up where a third string inactive QB is not an option many teams take.  That being said, what are the plans for Tanney and Kafka?  Are both going to be cut?  Are there plans to put one on the practice squad, and if so, how do they look and who is winning this battle?  McCown is first, but he's only a snap away from one of these guys being our back-up and I don't know much about them at all.  Hopefully it won't matter, but I've always been one who thought the third QB was an important position, and am asking for a little info both here and occasionally in the training camp updates.  thanks.
