wasnt it already reported that Lovie has last word on 53 but not draft etc.?

There were people on this board who were claiming the new GM selection didn't matter because he was only going to be a figure head. Some people saying Lovie is the GM. They were wrong. PewterReport had basically claimed Lovie had ultimate authority over personnel (which still wouldn't make him GM, but I digress).

Scott said ultimate authority over the draft, too.  If Scott is wrong, I'm wrong.  But I'll wait for Scott's explanation first.  Again, from last week's chat, SR, " Smith will have final say-so in terms of personnel and drafting, so he's running the show."

Every other report claimed it is a real GM position. A candidate with Licht's credentials wouldn't accept the job if it were just a piss-boy position.

I read Jay Glazer's report that it was "a real GM"  position and that Licht would have "control of the draft".  (On a side note, I recall Jay Glazer as the on-field reporter who asked Mike Smith what he told his Falcon team how to handle the dirty play of the Buccaneers.  Glazer said Smith told his team not to respond or retaliate to the dirty play of the Bucs.  Glazer never once mentioned any dirty play of the Falcons or what Coach Gruden said to his Bucs on the matter.  That's the Jay Glazer I remember.)Anyway, lest I digress further,  of course Licht will "control the draft", well sort of.  He'll most likely organize and run much of it, prior to and during.  But when it comes to making final decisions on the draft board, I contend that Lovie will have final authority.  Licht will state his case and make his arguments, but the draft board will be Lovie's call.  Licht himself said final authority is spelled out in the contract, but he did not explain.  I wouldn't either if I was him.  Licht may be brilliant, but I'm not convinced we're going to find out.  In the words of Scott Reynolds, Licht was "hand-picked" by Lovie.  That's not my definition of a "real GM".

Whatever dude. You don't know the details of the contract any more than I do. Licht said that if they still disagree about a player after much discussion and debate, they won't draft the player. It's being done by consensus. Lovie is not going to run roughshod over the GM, and the GM won't do that to Lovie... So this ultimate authority thing is the wrong focus. This is the point that the Glazers, Licht and Lovie all made. Again, if the organization is run by consensus building, then all this authority stuff is moot, and if somebody has to start imposing their power over the other, then they're screwed anyway. I'm happy with the final arrangement as I think they got the strong personnel guy they really needed.

All coaches have authority on the final 53.....so does Lovie...what he may not have total control over is the 90 or so bodies that run through 1BP through now and August.
