New Bucs head coach Lovie Smith hinted on Monday that there could be some familiar faces roaming the halls of One Buc Place again, and true to his word, former great Hardy Nickerson has joined Smith's staff to coach linebackers. Could there be more joining him? https://www.pewterreport.com/index.php?option=com_k2&Itemid=20&view=item&layout=item&id=9559
HARDY? What great news! Hardy Nickerson had as much to do with the turnaround of the Buccaneers from perennial losers into winners as any single player. Guys like Sapp and Brooks learned "the way" from this guy and having him return in this capacity is as good as it gets. Hardy! Hardy! Hardy! Welcome to Tampa Bay.
Being a great player doesn't make him a great coach. Gonna have to trust Lovie on this. Glad he's back in the organization.
Couldn't really find anything about his one year stay with the Bears. Like bucNW says, hopefully he's a good coach.

While that is certainly true, Don't you think that Coach smith himself would know if a candidate could coach LB's after an interview? Who better to judge than a guy who himself coached LB's for five years at the NFL level and was successful enough at it to move on to becoming a HC shortly thereafter. I think you might be underestimating Lovie's judgement is all.

I'm willing to put faith in Lovie. Just saying. If it were any other coach who had just spent 4 years coaching high school, not named Hardy Nickerson, people would be all over this.
I'm also giving Lovie the benefit of the doubt on this. I'm giddy that Lavonte David and Mason Foster get to be mentored by Nickerson. I am however skeptical of his coaching experience at the NFL level - a skepticism Coach obviously doesn't share. I guess we'll see the proof next Fall.

What if he were named Ray Lewis?
