There seems to be an assumption on these boards that Nicks has next to zero chance of playing next year.  It would be great to hear any news on him thst isn't just armchair doctoring.

We have heard from a few that Nicks may not play again, but no one can say for sure. His toe injury was severe enough before the MRSA that it was going to affect him for life. Both he and Schiano said that publicly last year. Now add in the MRSA and then a surgery to clean out the bone and it doesn't look well. But we will see if we can get any info. Obviously they do not have to report any injury news in the offseason, and even during the season they never get specific, so unless Nicks or his agent decide to share his progress then all we will get is armchair doctoring.

Apparently he's still at One Buc. At least he was there on Monday and using his locker. Nobody knows and if they did it's too early to announce something that might change for the better in the coming months. This is NOT to type the Buccaneers should not be looking at the LG position!

Best case would be if he retired and the cap space is freed up. If he tries to continue, it doesn't seem he has any chance of living up to the gobs of guaranteed money he'll be owed.

He's no longer due any guaranteed money - what would hit the books for cap purposes is $6 million of his base salary that is guaranteed against injury and the remaining prorated balance of the monies that was paid to him to lower his cap hit in 2013 which is just over $7 million  meaning there would be a cap hit in excess of $13 million. Nicks is not going to retire - furthermore his agent would never steer his client in that direction - at this point he was unable to see the field for nearly a year and a half due to his initial toe injury that got infected.

Yuc - assuming he cant play at a high level - would that mean our choices would be to IR him or cut him and eat it?

The best case scenario is that he plays, because the financial stuff is there regardless. The reality is that the week before they shut him down, he was the best OL on the field. What was he at, 75%? That was with virtually no training camp, and MRSA. I think the news that he's at One Buc is encouraging, though I suspect the Bucs have to plan that any snaps he gets going forward be considered in the "bonus" category.
