PewterReport.com unveils its second mock draft of 2014 and makes its projections for the Buccaneers' five draft picks. Would much rather have CB EJ Gaines from Missouri and DT Caurin Reid from Princeton in the 4th and 5th then Coleman and Reynolds. Coleman is a space eater - if the team is going to rely on its front four to get after opposing QB's than they need the horses in the trenches of course that's just my opinion.
I like, this draft MUCH better than the first one. I think if Watkins is there you HAVE to take him. However if he isn't, I would be VERY happy with Greg Robinson in the first and Richardson or Gabe Jackson in the 2nd. Trade or cut Penn and Joseph use the savings to sign Alex Mack to play center, then move Zuttah to RG. You now have a dominant oline which is also much younger. With this line Glennon will be a better QB, all the running backs will be better and the WRs will have more time to get open. The defense is also better because this line will help them by keeping them off the field.
Lets say you draft Watkins, what do you do about the horrible offensive line to allow you to throw to him?Now that Dominik is gone, can we please do something about rebuilding the OL?
Bucjoe, I don't care too much for Zuttah anywhere but center - where he is NFL average IMVHO. Stan - appears the new GM has made a statement about the Oline already.
I rarely see a mock draft that has the QB Carr going in round 1. Is it possible that we could pick him up in round 2? That would combine both of PR's top mock draft picks into one draft!
Dbuc, I have always thought Zuttah would be a really good center if he could stay there and not keep moving to cover the G position. I think his play this year was also hurt by the continual changes at LG (7 I believe) and the poor play of Joseph at RG. Also, just a reminder that Nicks was out, and Zuttah was in at LG when Martin went off in the Raiders game, and it was from there on that he had such a great rookie season. Prior to that, PR and many others were writing about Martin's poor play.In the best of all worlds, what I wrote in my post above comes about and Nicks gets back to 95%, plays LG for us and Richardson or Gabe Jackson becomes the RG. In that instance, Z becomes a primary back-up at both G and C.
Zuttah at backup would be perfect. Sometimes talking to other Bucs fans (thankfully not on this board) is like descending into some fever swamp where all our players are on the brink of superstardom. I think we've seen the best we can expect from Zuttah and I think he's about average.
Zuttah is average, but the Bucs aren't keeping a $4 million player as a backup.
A WR with a drug arrest at pick #7? I don't think Lovie will do that. Instead, he'll choose Matthews, Robinson, Mack, or Barr....imo.
I'd go with Watkins if Clowney or Manziel aren't there and they won't be. I keep hearing more and more about his size and explosiveness. We could use another play maker on offense so that would be my pick. I don't know about the drug deal. But if it was a minor one I think Lovie could get past it. Admittedly I'm just guessing about that.
The drug thing it was a very minor thing....as a Clemson fan I can tell you this kid is the real deal. As for the drug charge it was a minor incident he took responsibility and has been a model student athlete since, the kid made a mistake but owned up to it. http://www.orangeandwhite.com/news/2012/may/29/sammy-watkins-appears-calm-throughout-arrest-drug/
Would be ecstatic with Watkins. Solves both the need for a third option in the passing game and kick returner.
I watched Trent Murphy interviews and really like his attitude and (apparent) smarts. Also love his production. But, am I the only one who thinks he has some athleticism issues? NFLN was showing some of his play against Zach Martin and he was stoned. Sure Martin's a nice tackle but he didn't look like the kind of pass rusher we're going to need.
I don't think Zuttah is NFL average at C either. He's below average. Not horrible, but easy to improve on. I really think that if we aren't taking a QB at 7 (which I still think we are more likely than not to do), We'll be doing everything we can to work on the OL. Lovie had some craptastic OL play in CHI, he's got to know how hard that sunk them.

doc...I got lost in the words here. Are you saying you think they'll take a QB or they won't?
Agree Doc, no QB. Emphasis on OL should be #1 priority. There are some decent options in FA and some real good ones that could be avail both at #7 and maybe even into 2nd round. We need to make a commitment to the OL which we have never really done in the Dominik era. Really want a good DE, plunk down the money and go to Jared. How about FA Mack from Cleveland at center?Anything other than OL in first round, I will be very disappointed.
