My initial thoughts of the Bucs vs Jaguars....shortly following the game. The Bucs first team starting guards looked hapless at best, on nearly back to back plays both Meredith and Cousins were out-matched and looked terrible as Jaguars DT Sen'Derrick Marks just abused both players. Later on with the first team Bucs offensive line on the field Tyson Alualu and a teammate ran a TEX-stunt and this time it was Alualu vs newly acquired starting LT Anthony Collins, and Alualu proved the better man in  the battle. Collins looked shaky, at best and did not set his feet, kick slide or mirror effectively on a number of occasions. With the first team guards still on the field, this time against the Jaguars second teamers Alualu, got the best of Cousins.A few things stood out rookie fifth round pick G Kadeem Edwards, did not see action until the third team line made its way on the field. Fellow rookie Kevin Pamphile was the second string LT and displayed quick feet and an ability to ride defense ends past the QB drop point and out of the play. The standout was Jace Daniels who was anchoring the LG spot on the second string line.It was clearly a vanilla blocking scheme with the exception of a few plays where the team had multiple offensive linemen pulling...further C Evan Dietrich-Smith pulled a number of times. If you were a fan hoping to gain possibly a  glimpse of what the offense might look like, this was not the game to achieve such insight as the offense showed very little and I am not even sure they installed many if any plays to attack the Jaguars defense, to take advantage of any weakness.  Rookies, Charles Sims, Robert Herron and ASJ all had moments - but ASJ was flagged for holding on several plays...On the defensive side of the football, the first team looked solid, but not great. Gerald McCoy, is McCoy, explosive first step and quickness penetrating. They swarmed to the football and gang tackled. For the most part the defense tackled well for the first pre-season game and wa sbale to bend, but not break until the third teams took the field. Second year defensive ends William Gholston looked solid in run defensive, but did not explode and bring his hips around the edge with him. Steven Means had a decent rush and recorded a sack.DT Akeem Spence looked very explosive off the snap and was consistently the first defensive linemen moving. Used his hands well and moved the pocket - with the lone exception being the late hit he looked extremely quicker than last season. Da'Quan Bowers looked surprisingly agile and quick manning the UT position was able to play on the other side of the LOS, but when he was flipped to LDE he still does not consistently use his hands with any regularity or violence to break the grip of opposing blockers. Will have more later...after I re-watch the game.
