When I first read LaCanfora's article it read like this: people are talking to the Bucs about Revis... like they are multiple players from multiple teams. Nothing about the Bucs going beyond hearing it, setting a price, etc. Now I turn on the talking head shows and they're talking like the Bucs are putting this out there?? It wouldn't be the first time the 4 letter has generated a fake story and run with it... basically creating news.My opinion this would be a ridiculous mistake. I don't buy the stuff people - wrongly stereotyping what they think Lovie is going to do defensively - saying CB is devalued on our team. If you get a top one or two player at ANY position you don't get rid of him. It would be like Andy Reid inheriting Adrian Peterson and trying to trade him because he isn't Brian Westbrook catching out of the backfield. Stupid. What are the reasons for getting rid of him? Money?? It isn't my money, and unless he's a burden on the cap you don't do it. Doesn't matter if he's overpaid. Licht's all but said they aren't breaking the bank in FA - at least to the level where his salary needs to be dumped. We are ridiculously thin at the position already... as much as I love my fellow LHS alum, LJ. Off the soap box...

The topic of the article reads, Teams think Revis COULD be available for trade. In the body it states, the team Revis plays for COULD be INCLINED to trade him. Nowhere in the article is it said the Bucs are looking to trade, cut, release nor shoot Revis at sunrise. Smith has expressed his excitement in having Revis on his defense. It's purely conjecture. Per the Bucs GM, Revis is an asset to our team.

Exactly.

It's also "Revis Available?" not "Revis Available."

I don't doubt that some teams are interested, and I don't doubt that the Bucs would listen to offers. Just think it would take a pretty big deal to get them to trade arguably the best player on the football team who plays a premium position (even if you believe it's not as premium as before, it's still easily in the top half of positions).

One factor I think you guys are overlooking is that by trading Revis and his $16 Million salary it makes it more likely we can keep Lorig.

Not quite a full fledge guffaw, but I did cackle a bit. Well done!

Tog. I'm not understanding why the Bucs would bring a gimpy Revis in and sign him to his current contract, nurse him back to health, then trade him before playing him in a healthy state. All this while knowing no team would want to take the 16 mil cap hit? So they deal him away for draft picks that have never played a down in the NFL? Wouldn't that set the Bucs further away from having a winning season?

I don't think they will (and I personally wouldn't unless the price was very high). But they still COULD (and have it not be ridiculous). As Vin pointed out this is a new coaching staff - if they feel they can get picks back, if Revis isn't a real fit in the system (given the opportunity cost of draft picks and salary), and they can use his salary to bring in some very good edge rushers I could see them doing it.

Trade the best for a hand full of the not so good? Is that the way you would build your team?

If I could say get two 1st round picks and a couple 3rd round picks? Absolutely. Every single player has a price.  Teams trade great players all the time - because of age, because of the salary cap, because they get a great offer. I'm not advocating for shopping Revis, but if the right offer comes along you absolutely take it.

I feel the Bucs can win with this staff and a healthy Revis. I feel the ownership amassed this staff to build a winning team, not solely to accumulate a bunch of players to waste time weeding through. Wanna see Revis's value increase? Have a winning season with a healthy Revis and have him go to another probowl. Then assess if you want to trade him for a King 's ransom.

Tog what two specific 1st and 3 specific 3rd rounders would you trade Revis for? Just curious. Remember. This is not fantasy team ball. This your NFL team that you've taking the field with. Remember you traded Revis. What's your line up ?

Jparris88 I would never give up Revis for the second round overall pick , because I do not think even in this draft that any of the top two players are as valuable as Revis and could help the team as much as Revis can. Besides if the Bucs ever want to deal Revis they should let him play a full season a hundred percent healthy and let his trade value sky rocket! This draft has no players in the top five that bring the talent and impact that Revis brings! The man is a game changer!!

Oh hell, the Rams offer their two first rounders and i am helping Revis pack... BUT, if someone is offering much less they are wasting their time

Let me be clear I'm not planting my flag on two 1s and two 3s for Revis. I think that's likely good value, but someone could certainly convince me that less/more for Revis is great value (and draft position matters obviously). And I'm not advocating trying to trade him, only if the offer is sweet enough. That being said, I think those draft picks from anyone in the top 15 makes it worth it. If it were a team like New England, who you know is going to be drafting the high 20s next year again maybe you take two 1s, two 2s, and a 3 and 4 (or something). Obviously, you also take into account where you think the team is going next year. I'd value a pick from the Vikings or Bills more than from the Falcons because the Falcons will almost certainly be drafting much higher than the Bills/Vikings next year.I'm not treating this as Madden - I'm looking at three reasons this COULD make sense (for the right price). 1) Assuming a true franchise QB, in the front office's eyes, doesn't fall to us at 7 we may struggle to find that player in the future. I expect Lovie at worst to return us to mediocrity, meaning we'd expect to be out of franchise QB range. Thus future draft picks give us the ammunition to go after a QB in next years draft we covet.2) $16 million in freed up cap space gives us the leeway to bring in more players to fill other holes.3) You'd have to bring in a veteran corner to compete for a cornerback spot. Whether that's Tillman or another player.  I'd trust Lovie to be able to scheme around a reduced secondary after a Revis trade.  Certainly losing a top 3 corner will hurt. I think we can agree though that every player has a price (and I mean every player).  The Herschel Walker trade is a great example of the benefits that can accrue even from trading your best player. The question is what is the right price for Revis?

At this point, there is none. Thanks for that analogy though.
