I saw this article ( http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/01/lovie-smiths-hiring-could-end-revis-experiment/ ) on PFT about Revis possibly being done in Tampa if Lovie won't adapt the Tampa Two to Revis' game. Any merit to this?
And then they mention Tillman... who the Bears used a lot in MAN coverage.Oh the media...
Lovie's defense wasn't a strict 2 deep zone. He was man-ing up a great deal in Chicago. While I doubt the scheme would affect any decision on Revis, it's possible the pricetag does. A longshot that they dump him but I can see it as an issue.
The pricetag is going to be a problem.Revis or a corner that costs less + an upper level pass rusher via free agency? The opportunity cost is clear.
The pricetag is going to be a problem.
The team has quite enough cap space to retain Revis. I have a feeling Revis will figure quite prominently in the upcoming defensive schematic.

Not really a cap space issue.
What, then?

SCOFF!!
Nonsense, especially the whole "Cut him now to turn the 3rd round pick into a 4th" thing. They trade him, they get something better than a swap between 3rd and 4th. I like PFT a lot, but they also pull this crap more than they should.
We've already spent the #1 on him... Smith is a strong coach; I'm sure he'll adapt to his talent and not be beholden to "the Tampa 2." I'd be shocked and super disappointed if Revis was not here next year.

I totally agree. I was 100% against the trade, not just for the draft picks we were giving up but because I don't think the position is worth that kind of money, but we've done it now. I'd like to see them make a reasonable effort to incorporate him into their scheme before dumping him for such a measly return.
Seeing as Lovie hasn't even been officially confirmed as the HC, I'm thinking everything is pure conjecture right now.

there's no need for the "or" . . .. at least not right now
Here's a question - we have the cap space to keep Revis while still going after a Jared Allen or a Jay Cutler (if he does get out of Chicago). But how would you feel about Allen AND Cutler and getting rid of Revis? Revis is my favorite player to watch in the NFL but his contract is an albatross for any new GM/Coach and even if he is worth it, getting rid of it for no cost at all will provide flexibility to further adjust the roster for their scheme without eating up cap space.
