I would not want Jared Allen.. Too much of a liability on the run..I would rather put that money on the offensive line and draft a young DE..Clayborn, McCoy and Spence is a good start....
If you think Revis' contract is an albatross I wouldn't think you'd be happy with how much we'd have to pay to get Cutler, who hasn't shown he's any better than a mid-level NFL quarterback.

But that's the thing, relatively speaking, Cutler's price tag would not be much different than other quarterbacks in the league. You have to pay to get a QB (see Joe Flacco). Whereas Revis' contract vs. other corners in the League is obviously inflated. I love Revis and if I had to make the decision I would keep him and I'm not necessarily advocating otherwise. Just thinking out loud here on what the new regime MIGHT be thinking given the fact Revis makes so much....
Moot point on Cutler anyways. Just saw Bears signed him to a 7-year contract

I fully suspect Revis will play one more year with the currently structured contract ...if he performs up to his levels then the Buc's may move a lot of that money into a garunteed bonus that can be spread out to reduce the cap hit for future years ...it's a gamble yes but one that gets played over and over again on top talent.
Here was an article by Jason Cole of NFL Post.... http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Bucs-already-have-right-to-rework-Revis-deal.html Basically Bucs have the approval of Revis to work the deal around to cut down on salary cap by splitting the money up over years. No way he gets released, if anything, and I mean anything, he gets traded to a team who uses 99% man coverage. And I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I hope we stay away from guaranteed bonuses, etc. Dominick made his share of mistakes but I do appreciate his fiscal sobriety, particularly vs. some of his predecessors.
A lot of teams passed on Revis before the Bucs waved the checkbook full of zeros under his nose. I'm thinking he knows where he's wanted. With that said, I feel Revis and his agent will entertain any reasonable restructured offer to stay. As far as Smith "Bringing the Tampa/Cover 2 defense back" any of us would be crazy to even think Smith hid himself in a time warp and is just reemerging into pro football land. We may see some semblance of it, but not the base nor the only defensive scheme our team will play. In a 4-3 hybrid we could very well see a combination zone with Revis still playing man on a team's top receiver. I'm excited because we definitely have the youth and talent to pull off being a feared defense. Look at the takeaways these guys pulled off before Smith arrived. Go Bucs!!
As has been pointed out, Tillman and Jennings played a TON of man under Marinelli/Smith. In fact, saw a breakdown of Tillman in Smith's last year showing how much man he played (and what a great man corner he was, but got no respect because "pundits" like to label the team "cover 2").

Yeah. And it's too bad they don't know better. Let's see what next season's defensive scheme gets called.
