Are the days of the drop-back passer slowly fading in the NFL? Does the future at the QB position consist of players like Russell Wilson, Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick? What does this mean for incumbent Bucs starter Mike Glennon? Read what new Tampa Bay QB coach Marcus Arroyo thinks about Glennon's future and if he is the right fit. https://www.pewterreport.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=9621:&Itemid=15

Personally I feel as though Russell Wilson should have won the Super Bowl MVP Award. He WAS that good, extends plays, is accurate (over 70% in the game itself) and is a LEADER his entire team respects and is behind.Without him alone I seriously doubt the Seahawks make it near the Super Bowl.Yeah, QB play, Russell's play MATTERS. And his mobility is a HUGE part of his game. Mike Glennon simply cannot do that. Can he do enough to make up for his lack of mobility in today's game? The Buccaneers, as the Mark's article suggests, have to decide on that.

When you're a statue, you have to be an elite passer. He isn't, nor do i think he will be. An upgrade is inevitable. And I agree on every word about Wilson....he's special.

Glennon has some functional attributes but one horrible deficit that will be exposed even more next season.  Just get him out of the pocket and the play has about a 95% failure rate.  He has to be the most awkward QB I have ever seen rolling out.    Painful to watch.    I would love to see Manziel as a Buc but he will be long gone. The Johnny football critics will end up just like the Drew Brees and Russell Wilson critics.  Egg on their faces!  My personal wtf is suggesting that Manziel will be injured.... to which I question why does Brees and Wilson remain uninjured?  Manziel is quicker than either of them.... If the bucs take a QB with their first pick the only one that might be available would be Carr but I think that might be too much of a reach.  Watson is still my favorite pick with McCowan being picked up in free agency and perhaps someone like Murray being picked in a later round.

Maybe it impacts their plans in that they are now more likely to take a mobile QB at 7?

If you want to fill the stands, find that sexy type of pick with a mobile QB.  If you want to win SB's then build on your Defense and running game.  The Seattle model is simple - strong running/ defense and an average, game managing QB.  Similar to the Buc SB runs several years ago.  Seattle was 26th in the league this year in passing.  If you want to replicate their winning model - you DO NOT do so with a QB in the first round.

IMVHO Wilson is far beyond a game manager.  He is a playmaking qb... just my .02

I believe Wilson's passer rating was over 100 his first two years in the league -- the only time that's ever happened. Not exactly average.

Wilson has a good arm, excellent mobility, and notable intelligence and poise.  Average?  Rather than pile on, I'll hazard a guess that's not what you meant.

Didn't we go all over this when Michael Vick was the QB de jour? It doesn't who and what kind of QB you have, he will only work so many miracles if the team around him doesn't compliment his play. Seattle for the most part destroyed the Broncos OL, it's as simple as that. That is what won the game IMO.

Couple thoughts:1) Not sure how anyone can seriously believe Wilson deserved the MVP when the Seattle defence put up the greatest SB defensive performance in the modern NFL. When you're defence holds the no. 1, record setting offence to 8 points (in garbage time), it doesn't matter how efficient your QB was - the defence won you that game (BIG TIME).2) I think Wilson is an above-average QB. While he's very efficient with a QBR for two years at 100 and has a weak receiving corps, he's also not called on to shoulder the team very often. I think the SB was a great example of the type of QB Russell Wilson is at this point - smart, poised, efficient, able to make plays with his legs and avoid turnovers. Yet while his QBR is high, his yards and attempts rank 16th and 22nd in the league (he threw the fewest passes per game among starting QBs). Given the number of QBs that go down to injury, that's below average. Now, attempts and yards aren't a major knock against Wilson (scheme/playcalling), but it tells you the type of QB he is. While game manager might be too demeaning to his skill set, he (to me) does not appear to be an elite QB.

Exactly!

As you say, though, Tog, yards and attempts are not important stats. QB rating is a much better stat, and he nails that one. Why? Because he plays virtually mistake free. He's very hard to sack, and rarely throws INTs, and he kicks butt on third down. Equally important, he is a winner -- he plays his best under pressure, and he has tremendous leadership skills. So if that's not elite, then I would say -- then we don't need an elite QB. But whatever Wilson is, it's worlds beyond what our current QB can offer. And with regard to the Vick comparison: Wilson is not running nearly as much as Vick did early in his career. I agree we don't need a Vick-style QB. But what we DO need is a guy who has Jeff Garcia level scrambling ability, because that allows you to compete with teams that have great pass rush, and in the playoffs, most teams do.

Gents, QBR aside (ESPN has him at 13th), Wilson had 26 yards rushing and 200 yards passing in the SB.  There isn't enough bandwidth for fan reaction if we drafted a QB in Rd 1 that gave us that kind of "production".

They slaughtered the Broncos.  What more did he need to do?  If I spend $5 on my lunch it doesn't mean I couldn't have given them $10.

This comment is so ridiculous I don't know where to begin refuting it.How about "Winning, duh".Or in other terms: If our QB had been starting for Seattle, what do you think HIS stats would have been? I bet you those 26 rushing yards would have been sacks and INTs, and his 200 passing yards would have been sub-150 due to those sacks.
