The thread started about Lovie and the offense and every post after that was defense. We don't need defense. We need a HC offense oriented and a OC with solid experience.IMO, so far we have neither in the Lovie regime.Virtually every thread on here talks about defense since Lovie was hired. Extremely disappointed. Not good for the future.

We don't need defense? Whoa!!

LOL I have to agree with Skip. Why NOT continue to support a defense that is coming on? It is still, IMO, the backbone of this team. With some improvement on offense and ST's, the defense could be good enough to get this team back to the playoffs. I see no reason why Tedford and Coach Smith cannot achieve this and win here. Why so negative Stan? Give this the chance Lovie deserves. I slso think going with Tedford shows Lovie has done a lot of thinking during his year off. Expect a much better team on the field. Feels good!

I figured White would foresee big things for GMC in a less stupid defense. I tend to agree.

So if GMC regresses in 2014 after two pro bowl years, then you would say what about the new scheme and coaching?

It failed.

One bad/mediocre year from GMC won't necessarily be because of the scheme. Could be injuries, could be a falloff of talent around him, could be partying (the "Freeman Curse" haha), could simply be unlucky...If you see regression/stalled development from a number of other players, then I agree the scheme's failed. But the level that McCoy's playing at, even with his talent, isn't easy  to maintain (or improve).

I honestly am looking forward to watching the defense play.. But yes, I agree Tedford's offense should be fun to watch.

I could see McCoy's numbers fall due to defensive line play increasing overall. That would be outstanding!!

Am I the only one that finds the "he's willing to change and will have sorted his offensive issues out" type quotes to be either laughable or scary depending on which way you look at at it.If he's so willing to change why did it take him getting fired after 9 years of failure to improve the offense before he wanted to and if it's so easy to change that all he needs to do is decide to do it why didn't he do it before he was fired?I'm not buying the whole he's suddenly "got it" and everything will be fine, I'm also scared that if it doesn't work it's going to take him getting fired again to realise it, wasting seasons along the way.

i dont know it its a simple as 'getting it'...rather than a good system with the right players.  lovie tried many different schemes...schemed that had worked at the NFL level.  so maybe the problem was personnel - something love suddenly 'got' responisibility for.

The personnel he had before he got fired jumped to being 2nd ranked for points and 8th for yardage as soon as Lovie left town.9 years of suckage and then BAM straight to the top. It's not like his defenses were even as good either considering all the hype he gets as a defensive genius, 5 of 9 seasons that side of the ball was average or worse. To live up to the hype you'd expect D1ck LeBeau/Steeler type numbers but it's not even close.

so the offense got better when lovie left, the defense wasnt really all it was cracked up to be, yet the bears lost more games this season?i think it is possible that lovie is an offensive handcuffer and an overrated defensive coach.  but i also think its easy to see he is willing to keep working and trying new things until he finds something that works.  he isnt set in his ways and he doesnt have too big of an ego to surround himself with quality assistants.i do think that if you are scared or find lovie laughable, you are also probably hard pressed to find a suitable candidate instead.

Agreed.  This D played well last year, but I am excited to see it this year, especially the D Line.

This new staff is stellar compared to what's been here in quite some time. The idea of getting younger players mixed with experienced high profiled free agents, for the most part, has been happening. The coaching staff, every one of them that has done press conferences, are on the same page about evaluating the players the players we have and possibly adding players through the draft and free agency. Yes, this is canned philosophy. But, when you take inventory of the number of players they all have coached to elite status you have to have a new found confidence in what's to come. Lovie Smith and his supporting cast have not built a team together before. I'm excited to see what shakes out. Go Bucs!!!
