I can't recall ever seeing such a poor pass defense since Rod Jones' heyday. What is going on here? Didn't Lovie -- a defensive guru -- have all off-season to prepare us?Barron and Goldson are God-awful in coverage, especially Goldson. I would strongly consider sitting Goldson and replacing him with someone who can cover. And next year we need to draft some safeties who CAN cover.Re: our CBs, I give the team some slack because Verner and Jenkins missed so much time. They will no doubt improve as the year goes on, but they probably shouldn't have even been on the field yesterday. Finally, as good as Mason Foster is against the run, he is poison for our zone scheme against the pass. He simply cannot cover WRs or TEs that go through his zone, which makes his zone the weakest link in an already week pass defense. In this fan's opinion, it would make sense to move him to SAM and let Dane Fletcher start at Mike, and draft some more competition for that slot next year.Overall, it looked like Carolina's backup QB and below-average WR corps was just playing pitch and catch with no defenders on the field. Only one pass was defensed the entire game, and that was Goldson's dropped INT.On the bright side, Verner and Jenkins will get better with time, and so will the entire D as they become more comfortable in the new scheme.Thoughts?
