[edit: I see now it was a quote, sorry Mustard]The author included a lot of interesting info, and raised some really good questions, but this lead ^^ is not really fair, right? I mean its not that "he posts things on Instagram" . . its everything else, right? Its that his post on Instagram and twitter seem to reflect a life that has no focus on football and has a lot of focus on the $$$ he just made from the Bucs and those posts are consistent with what the former Bucs sources said. In other words, the story is "Williams may have cashed it in" not "Williams posts on Instagram"He was injured right after getting big money. Hamstring injuries can be nothing more than unlucky injuries, but they can also be the result of fitness issues. Unfortunately, his hamstring injury comes after getting paid and during a bad season that included (as I recall) a false start or two from him) and not really that great of production when healthy, as I recall. In other words, there is fodder from the season for those who might be inclined to think he's lost focus. (Compare him to VJax who also got paid) His post-injuries tweets and Instagram posts are consistent with a partier (again, compare to VJax), but that is not the issue as much as we are discussing posts AFTER a big contract and as far as I know he did not have the same types (or maybe, volume) of post BEFORE the big contract. (again, compare him to VJax) I also don't believe he was an aspiring rapper or posting about being an aspiring rapper before his contract. In sum, everyone might have the completely wrong impression of the guy, but he is the one who has created that impression and NOT just by posting things on Instagram. He chose to tweet that he was dropping $30K on dinner because he could, he chose to post about his rapping and partying, he chose NOT to post about his football efforts and rehab .. . and he chose top tell everyone who took issue with it to go F themselves (essentially) earlier today
Damn Scott you got the shitestorm going today...hope you have all your ducks in a row on this one.
Funny because the article actually goes out of its way to be fair to Williams, noting that he also posts about his son etc and that he has a right to party etc. At least that is the part that seemed out of place to me, other than to be balanced. Heck, they even counted tweets, who does that? lol. Interested to see what the deal is on the fines. The agent said he "wasn't aware" but I guess we will see. To me the fines are not that big an issue, its the rest of the story
There were plenty of reasons to doubt Schiano was the right man to coach this team, but I have no problem with his emphasis on character. If I had serious questions about a player's character I wouldn't consider them before the fifth round, and only then if they graded as first or second round talent.
+1
So lemme get this straight...the brain trust were worried that MWill was more concerned about his rap career than his NFL one and their answer was Kenny Britt (who has been in and out of trouble with the law)? My lord, thank goodness the Glazers canned these bozos.
That was my immediate reaction as well.
I would recommend so of you read the article on BucNation...seems it would be VERY difficult to rack up $200,000 worth of fines while on IR. This guy has been a spectacular player for a 4th round pick, one of the very few, if ONLY 4th round pick under Dominik that has every done anything on the field. Unsure of the motivation by "past regime" Dominik, because if true this make them look even more incompetent after giving him new contract. Of course, there is precedence with Clayton, but IMO Williams is a much better player, and its unfortunate how Tampa seems to crucify their own players with very little evidence of anything malicious. It's how this area's media has worked for years and has now trickled down to the blogs and fans. I've said this before and unfortunately I believe we have the worst fans and media with regard to an NFL team in the NFL. NOT ALL, but so many sheep take their cues from the negative media towards the Bucs, that has gone on for years, decades.
Bringing in Britt may not be as big a deal as everyone is thinking. My understanding is that the team was looking at bringing in Britt only if Williams didn't pan out - it wasn't "We're set on replacing Williams with Britt."Schiano had a prior relationship with Britt, knew him well, and if he (and Dominik) felt that Britt would be on the straight and narrow in Tampa I have much less of an issue with this. I don't think Schiano was betting everything on Britt - rather I think he would have come in part way through training camp for the vet minimum. Given his talent I'd be willing to take that risk particularly because of Schiano being there.
So an employer is not allowed to react to an employee behavior that they are not pleased with? I need to get into this business.
Posting the instagram pictures by itself is not an issue, it is in conjunction with other things. What if he had an rehab appointment at 9, rolls in at 11 and the medical staff are looking at instagram pictures of him partying till 3 or 4 in the morning? What if after the surgery he was told to take it easy and not do anything strenuous for a month, and then he posts pictures of him partying, dancing and rapping? As someone pointed out, MW hasn't denied any of this yet so we will have to wait and see how it pans out. There are a few chapters left in this one if you ask me.

The interesting thing to me is that MW didn't deny the fines. You'd figure that would be the first thing he'd bring up.

Well the agents denial was... circumspect? He didn't seem to outright deny the fines so much as Williams not being fined for a couple specific behaviours. He also specified that he wasn't "aware" of any fines - covering his ass one way or the other.

right, Williams couldnt use the same defense

Good post.
The part about Britt is odd. The dude's been in legitimate trouble with the law in addition to pouting about a diminished role in TN last year. To me it would've been a strictly Rutgers South move. I think we can safely assume that bad idea has passed.I don't doubt the veracity of SR's story here. If you follow MWill on Twitter you see some stuff that normally doesn't come out of a pro athlete. The only thing that bugs me significantly is the hamstring rehab being blown off. He knows he's important to the offense moving forward, it's the reason he was paid. My guess is he gets a fresh start this year with Lovie to prove he can live up to his contract, but after that he's probably dunskie.
