I believe the guy that struck out looking with a runner on in the 3rd, hit into a double play with 2 runners on in the 5th, and struck out looking with two runners on in the 7th. Maybe if he hit in those innings we wouldn't have needed to bat in the 9th or in the very least he wouldn't have been on-deck, but at bat.
