F2.Large DNA nanotech started with Nadrian Seemans in the 1980s. HIs work took years to make and analyse. Various innovations to make the dna fold faster have come over the last decade really. One group got the dna nanostructures made in minutes.  This same group made single atom chemistry with a nano device in just last year.  The nano motors pictured in the link just above is made from the same group. The nano motor is about 20 nanometers in dimension. Imagine looking at things you can't see in a regular microscope; these nano motors cannot be seen by that high school microscope. All this group has to do is combine these nano motors with their single atom chemistry device they built, string them in an assembly line, and we can have a nano-manufacturing machine at the nano scale.- http://www.tum.de/en/about-tum/news/press-releases/short/article/32983/ ""On the one hand," Dietz says, "we now really trust the placement precision within our structures – because we have actually placed two molecules and controlled their distance with atomic precision. On the other hand we have now a prototype rotary mechanism. Based on our measurements, its mobility is such that it could do up to 50,000 rpm if every rotary step it took would go only in one direction. In the next generation of devices, we will use the placement precision to couple chemical reactions to the movements of a rotor."
