The Taliban has no Air Force at all....until now. But we abandoned that air support and intelligence support, which we promised, and left the Afghani troops to figure it out...they had no chance without US air support. Thousands of NATO troops left also because of the same lack of US air support.
It is not like the US was expected to do the actual front line fighting, the Afghani army was doing all the dying.
