71 year olds routinely go back to take on 43 year old ex-navy dirt bikers ..... whats the big deal ... took the kids to see Frozen today ... middle of the day .... brought my 9 ... self-defensebtw ... bunch of gun types in this thread ..... not a one of which disputes that the gun was the proximate cause of death . . .stupidity caused the fight but gun caused the death . . . and yet not a thing should be done . . . gun logic

Even you don't disagree that the gun was the proximate cause of death and so faced with that reality you go right to "we should ban anything and everything". No one said ban anything (except you) . .. I have said there is a problem that you and many others deny out of fear. The guy could've been killed by a massive number of paper cuts from the popcorn box . . . lol . . but a paper popcorn box and a gun are obviously VERY different.. . . the only reason the 71 year old has the gun on him is to kill someone, whether in self-defense or on offense. He used the gun exactly as intended . . . to kill a human being. Guns are not the same as hammers or brooms or paper boxes . . all of which serve a greater social utility . . . hand guns are used primarily to kill humans, it only make sense that they would be subjected to greater regulation than a paper popcorn box . . . .JUst to illustrate the point, here's "gun logic" extended to a similar situation . . . 3 kids joyriding in a car get in an accident . . they are stupid kids . . 2 kids get killed because they are not wearing seatbelts . . . the stupidity is the cause of the accident, the failure to use seatbelts the proximate cause of the 2 deaths . . . gun logic says:1. do nothing because there will always be stupid people2. do nothing because passing a law to mandate that people wear seatbelts will just be another law people ignore.3. do nothing because people will still die in car accidents . . .worse than even that flawed logic is the FACT that when it comes to guns those excuses for doing nothing are driven by FEAR . . . fear that any regulation is a step to taking away guns. Just look at all the posts here that ADMIT?ACKNOWLEDGE the gun is the proximate cause of death but go on to raise something like "they want to ban everything."
the anti-gun movement wants to indiscriminately strip the rights of everyone.
All we need is to ban guns and there won't be anymore deaths.
Whats more if you were to ban everything that might cause harm with stupid actions, we would be very cold and living in caves.
The banning of public places and more importantly, hands, would go a long way.
So your answer is to legislate (ban) items that stupid people might do stupid things with. Where do you stop?
short of an all out ban I'm not sure what further legislation would have prevented this incident.

Fear. The more gun/death stories circulated the more support from the casual individual that something needs to be done even if it doesn't address the issue at hand.Still waiting for any psycho anti-gun folks to explain the legislation, that would have prevented this incident.
