Put aside the substance of climate change and just ask yourself who was the last 16 year old (?) who carried an ongoing debate with US president and a US Treasury Secretary?
Thunberg is able to keep the debate going because the US President and Treasury secretary are focused more on their political base than anything else. As a simple example, Munhcin received this question:

Normally, a person in his position would just respond to the substance in bold, giving no platform to the source. Its a total softball. But, he could not resist playing to Trump and Trump's base so he offered this:

which, predictably, only offered her a BIGGER platform to crush Munchin;
