Yesterday the New York governor was all over the news talking about their shortage of medical supplies and beds. This morning the mayor of New York City is all over the news saying they have less than a weeks supply of key medical equipment including ventilators.
This is today’s headline on northern Italy:

Read the article. Because of a shortage of ventilators, just with the mayor of the city of New York is worried about, they have stopped treating patients over 60 years of age in northern Italy. In other words they are making a decision to not treat ill patients because they don’t have the equipment. That is essentially choosing who lives and who dies

Italy was slow to test and slow to social distance in part because it’s politicians downplayed the risk.
