Italy is obviously a bad story for CV. The current mortality rate is 6% roughly.
But, importantly, as compared to the US, Italy is OLDER and has a substantially higher rate of SMOKERS (cv is a pulmonary disease).
The similarity, if any, is a slow reaction and to some extent dismissive public. The other similarity - and this is the real concern in the US - is an over run medical system. This concern is evident here in all the talk about flattening the curve.
