$12 billion dollars is being syphoned from the US economy to pay for this agribusiness tariff nonsense. To put that in perspective, that's about 1/10th of a percent of the US GDP down the toilet, just on subsidizing one industry hurt by the trade war, and not even making that industry all the way whole.
Another way of thinking about it... The US GDP was predicted to grow about 304 billion (~1.6%), before the trade war. This subsidy alone is about 1.2% of the entire manufacturing and non-durable goods industry GDP, which includes Agriculture, Petroleum, Textiles, etc. So we're not getting growth from there. Manufacturing and non-durables makes up ~5% of our GDP. so assuming all industries are impacted by Trump about the same, bailing everyone out (not just Trump's agribusiness base) would cost around $240 billion. The man has done $240 billion worth of damage to what would have been $340 billion worth of growth had he just left things alone. He's a one man recession.
And y'all wonder why he went bankrupt and was into the Russian oligarchs for money. He wasn't a billionaire, and at this rate, no other American will be either.
