This is probably the best intro to the Riemann hypothesis.

Sir Michael Atiyah is already a famous mathematician - coming up with a topological K-theory, which is a generalisation of the mobius strip, to an index theorem, which is a generalisation of the Riemann Roch theorem; this leads to much algebraic geometry.

For him to still be active at 87 is amazing even amongst mathematicians. Most do their best work at a young age and don't continue after that.

A quick google search - https://www.iflscience.com/editors-blog/a-mathematician-claims-hes-found-a-simple-proof-of-this-milliondollar-problem/

Sir Atiyah announced a month ago, and it appears that mathematicians who were there or have seen it since are excited.
