Few quick comments:1. you are assuming all the guns being confiscated are illegal2. you are assuming all involved are criminals, the clear point of the article is that all are not3. most "illegal" guns start as "legal" guns because we have a country that allows them to be sold in the MILLIONS . .
The article clearly states they focus on gangs and people who commit the most crime. So if they are in possession of a firearm they will be in possession of them illegally. In response to point 3, I think the article shows that removing firearms from the bad guys dramatically reduces gun violence and murder, not simply removing firearms.
