Michigan voters amended the state constitution to create a truly random, non-political redistricting commission. The intent was to have redistricting track actual population changes reflected in the census*, rather than have the districts gerrymandered by the party in power

Seriously though, read the lawsuit. It describes the process for selecting the redistricting commission. It’s designed like jury selection.
