Under the Trump admin, the US government has been circumventing the appellate courts by petition the Supreme Court as if everything is an "emergency." The ultra conservative judges have allowed this even though it goes against many decades of precedent.
Sotomayor spoke about it in a dissent because its so obviously bad for courts to be infected by politics, let alone the highest court in the land.
Trump lashed out
