To be sure I don't confuse anyone and stick to character I'd like to start off with the observation which I mentioned in another thread that a certain administration could really use a war right now? Shit is getting more scary by the day. I'm just calling attention to the fact because fair is fair. If Trump were President it would surely be brought up in the daily bashings. Joe Biden's administration is getting hammered with drastically low poll numbers and is very likely to lose the house and Senate in the next elections because of it. No question, he could benefit depending on certain outcomes. Frankly, as you all know, I would hate to see that. lol

But it's a complicated situation. I am vehemently anti war in most cases but being anti war is easy when you're looking at The U.S.'s presence around the globe and de-facto title of "the worlds police". We have historically done way too much. At the same time you can't just completely abandon justice and ignore the plight of millions of innocents. Certainly, a just society needs to have compassion and do whatever is possible to assist a sovereign nation's right to exist. I was shocked when I heard for the first time last week that Russia may invade the entire country or at least up to the capital. I was always under the assumption that any conflict would only involve the two provinces in the east that Putin has been secretly funding a covert war in for the last several years.

I think I mentioned that I have family in Ukraine. Thankfully in western Ukraine near the Polish border but it's still scary. My wife's immediate family is her two parents who aren't going to be fighting in any war as they are in their 60's and her brother's widow and 9 year old niece. But she has many cousin's and their children who will likely end up fighting in this war. If Putin invades it really will be a tragedy. From what I've seen these people are fiercely patriotic. Ukraine has been fighting for independence since before much of it was part of Russia which is Pre WWI. Poland and Russia were fighting over it the century before that. I fear that if it happens it will be really really bad.

I vow here in this thread to treat Joe Biden fairly in regards to this particular world event. I'm not a war hawk. I know many conservatives will go bananas if he is able to make a deal to prevent war that involves giving what they percieve as too much. Conceding territory and promises not to allow Ukraine into NATO but I will not do that. I know Ukrainians don't want to do that either. But I believe if Biden can prevent a war through any means it would be a great success. At the same time I also concede that there may not be anything that he can do to prevent it. It's an interesting conflict that I have being anti war yet also understanding that you still have to project strength. I would like to see him project as much strength as possible and to assist Ukraine in any way possible short of a direct war with Russia. I may criticize him but for now I'm open to letting him do his best with the situation. It can't be trivial either. Sanctions are not enough. I'm not opposed to air support or advanced anti aircraft systems being deployed. I'm not sure of all the diplomatic nuance as none of us really are but I would not be completely against some direct support at least in the early phases of any invasion.

Anyway, I thought a thread may be in order as this shit seems to be getting worse by the day.
