An observation from a Swedish engineer:
“The notion that a nation can run on sunshine and breezes is worse than delusional.
People might fall for the idea that we can merrily run on sunshine and breezes, alone, but with a few trillion dollars worth of mythical mega-batteries providing backup for a few minutes, when the sun sets and the wind stops blowing.
A two-megawatt windmill is made up of 260 tons of steel that required 300 tons or iron ore and 170 tons of coking coal, all mined, transported and produced by hydrocarbons.
A windmill could spin until it falls apart and never generate as much energy as was invested in building it.”
Sometime for fun look up and calculate how much concrete is needed for one windmill support pad. And how many trucks are needed to deliver that material. And how many miles of road have to be dug up and replaced with deeper and stronger surface material to support the hundreds or even thousands of very heavy cement trucks. And calculate the amount of fossil fuel needed to do all of that in addition to the amount of concrete.
And then multiply your figures by two since it all has to be undone when a windmill is replaced. Because you can't reuse the concrete support pad. It has to be busted up, pieces loaded into trucks, then those very heavy trucks driven down the new roads and to a dump. Then we can calculate what's needed for mining and delivery raw materials. And the hundreds of new concrete factories that have to be built. All of that using fossil fuels.
So, please, some liberal dumbass out there tell me that wind is our future.
