Look, I was hoping they would go for 2 when they completed the pass at the 2 yard line, in fact, I posted it after the catch. Excusing the decision because of lack of talent at WR, or the weather?!? (Bowles) is ridiculous since the Bucs had just driven the ball down the field to score. No fluke plays, or "Gosh-we-were-lucky" plays. It was a solid drive down the field for a TD with the same weather (!?!?) and talent we would have had for a 2-point conversion attempt. Gimme a break!

as you would expect . . .

The decision to pass on the 2-point conversion was made before the touchdown.

“I mean, we talked about it as a staff going down there [to the end zone]; going forward we understood we were going for 1 and we were going to get it into overtime,” Bowles said.

Go for two. No question about it. If it failed the majority of posters here would be giving him credit for being aggressive for once.

Like the fake punt!

(Kidding)

He should've gone for 2, agreed.  Not sure the majority of posters HERE give a golf clap if he goes for it and fails. Last season, Mayfield was to blame for the sending RBs the wrong way . .

Its a tough crowd lol

Majority of posters, who don't have their head up their ass? I think that probably sounds better.

The only thing I would add is, the offense is the dominant side of this team right now. The defense is struggling with depth, especially key players needed in the scheme.

It’s not fans with their head up their backsides, it’s what perspective they come from. There are defensively minded fans in this Buc fan base, raised on the Tampa-Two and the Bowles great defenses over the years - so they don’t have a problem going for the tie, play for overtime and making a stop in OT, winning the coin toss & scoring first - or being able to limit the Chiefs to a field goal and allowing the offense to score that TD.

However, we lost the coin toss and the defense - while playing well for most of the game - was still missing the Edge, ILB, and CB we ALL know are NOT available - so we couldn’t contain them in OT.

While the offense had the Chiefs defense gassed, hindsight makes us believe we could have gotten the 2 point conversion. Maybe having Mike & Chris would have made that an easier decision, but it still wouldn’t have been a lock.

Second guessing a game like that - which we lost - makes it easier for those who already wanted to fire Bowles, prior to the season, to make their case, again.

I still come back to the idea that of the two sides of the ball - the offense is still the more capable right now. Considering the Chiefs DID win the coin toss, and the fact that our defense let them out of several 3rd & long, you have to consider that your defense WON’T stop Mahomes in OT. So, do you want to trust your offense that DID outperform expectations - and leave it to the chance that the offense might pull it off - or relying on a coin-toss that is COMPLETELY out of your hands?

Again, in retrospect, we should have taken the chance on the offense.

Having Mike, or Chris, or even JMac, makes that decision easier.

However, I still think if we’d missed on the 2 point conversion, there would still be many of the same voices arguing to fire Bowles.

as I said before, I am beginning to struggle with the in-game critical decisions (clock management, TO’s when we NEED to call them, etc) ALWAYS going with the safe analytics and ALWAYS trusting the defense to win the day, regardless of their performance - has become a frustration of mine.

Bowles "we were going for one and get it into overtime" is about the silliest thing I've ever heard Bowles say, along with blaming the rainy conditions for the decision.

I mean its not a surprise at this point. Bowles is very risk adverse and is a believer in his defense its just how he operates. He's a take the points kind of guy because has the mindset that his defense can hold offenses to 20 points when they've clearly have not been able too.

I know, several of my family are Bengal fans. They don’t reflect the entire fanbase, but they also didn’t  complain - in fact they liked Zac Taylor’s decision to go for it…

Yes, heard the same thing from a couple Bengals fan.

But the very nature of sports fans is to express opinions that are usually (not always) grounded in some other belief or just the general emotion of the moment:

“Zac Taylor needs {to be} fired immediately,” one individual posted on X. “Going for 2 makes zero sense there.” Others thought the move conveyed fear. “I DONT CARE…going for 2 right there is so stupid,” a fan said. “No matter the outcome. The Bengals just let the whole world know that they are scared of Lamar Jackson and the Ravens.”

But, Sam Monson hitting the nail on the head here:

“I respect the Bengals’ decision to go for 2,” former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho posted. “On the road you go for 2, at home you play for overtime! Scared money don’t make no money!”

When assessing such a huge call, it can be easy to fall into the trap of results-oriented thinking. One analyst tried to dispel that type of approach. “Going for 2 was the right call,” Sam Monson said. “Sometimes the right call still loses.

I think Bowles made the wrong call and we lost. If he makes what I think is the right call and we lose I think most praise the decision, especially given Bowles' reputation. Some tear the decision to pieces, probably lol

He is the LEADER though and leader make decisions.

On to the 49ers!

I applaud the Bengals decision to go for two. Both teams offenses just had a 4th quarter track meet vs tired defenses. Whichever team won the toss would likely win the game. Leave it up to a coin toss, or let your players go win the game. The Bengals could have made a better choice for the play, but at least they tried to WIN the game.

Weird how this concept escapes a few on here.
