Per Brad Gagnon(saw on bleacher report) I won’t post all 32 but just the nfc south

Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr.: Crapshoot -- That’s just the reality with a first-round pick these days, and 105 passes in five games as a rookie isn’t enough to change that either way.

Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young: Budding -- By no means is the 23-year-old suddenly a sure thing, but Young redeemed himself in a major way and potentially saved his career with 16 combined passing/rushing touchdowns to three interceptions in Carolina’s last seven games.

New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr: Waste -- Statistically and otherwise, the 33-year-old vet has actually been pretty good the last two years. But he has a ceiling and so do the Saints, and it’s from anything resembling the Super Bowl.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield: Insufficient -- The 2018 No. 1 overall pick led the NFC in touchdown passes but also in interceptions. And that combined with extreme inconsistency just doesn’t suffice on a decent-not-great team.

fair? Can we even call baker the franchise player based on his short term contract? Thought they may go wirfs but most teams they took the qb

Yes, lazy analysis.

It’s arguable that with just an average defense, Baker would have been more than sufficient. Beat Commanders, Eagles, Lions, and lost BOTH star receivers, played Mahomes to OT… but, I’m a Buc’s fan.

Bryce Young would be insufficient, as in sample size.

Lazy yes.  Analysis no.  Insufficient?  What would he like the Bucs to do?  Trade for Pat Mahomes?  Have Tom Brady drink from the Fountain of Youth over in St. Augustine?  I tried that.  The results were mixed at best.  I became more immature.

Bucs had a super bowl caliber offense which is more than sufficient to win it all if the defense was just NFL average.

If teams could draft all the starting QBs in the league as they stand today, Baker would be a top 10 QB drafted right now. Period.  Intangibles with Baker aren’t really intangibles.  Meaning, his leadership and ability to keep the team in the game is’nt something that can be debated. Baker is a winner. This anaylsis is weak and bias or just plain dumb. Here’s the QBs that the league would maybe take prior to drafting Baker.

Mahomes

Allen

Burrows

Lamar

Herbert

Love

Stroud

Rodgers

Herbert

Great post. I would argue some placement of where Baker would fall on the list - but I wouldn’t argue with the names.

Baker has proven he can win in this offense. There may be better QB’s out there, stuck on bad teams that just don’t have the talent to leverage what the QB can do. Some of the QB’s on this list can transcend weaker supporting talent, that’s a very limited list - and it does not include all of the 9 QB’s you listed.

It is a QB driven league, but if the supporting cast isn’t there, if the organization doesn’t build the o-line, and THEN bring skill positions, they won’t win.

For instance what Cincy is doing to Burrow is criminal, from both an o-line and defensive perspective. Trey Hendrickson is a stud, but the surrounding talent wastes his effort. They refuse to participate in high dollar free agents and trades (unless they’re trading away talent, or losing high dollar talent to FA).

Bucs should be running the ball more. Baker nearly blew the Panthers and Raiders games.

Easy there Chief, while Wirfs is certainly special, Mike has done it for a decade.

Not even sort of a slam on Wirfs, he's amazing but, Mike is our best player on offense ever.

Bucs were 16th in points allowed, which is average. In the playoff game they gave up 23, which is league average, but remember the offense is responsible for some of those points. Washington scored 23 at Philly. Washington scored 38 in Detroit with a missed FG so it should have been 41 offensive points.

The Bucs defense was average and actually above average in the playoffs.

You're wrong. Wirfs is a better player at a more important position. His Super Bowl film was historically good.

Wirfs is the Randy Moss of offensive tackles and Mike Evans is the Richmond Webb of WRs. Before you knock that comparison, Webb has 2 1st team All-Pros, 2 second team All-Pros and 7 Pro-Bowls. I might be being generous.
