Hi all - thought I'd post my first mock of the year. I don't normally do these, but thought I'd have some fun with Draft Network's mock draft simulator.
I have tried to aim for a balance of immediate starters, and developmental prospects at positions where the Bucs need more depth and/or need starters in the next year or two.
Positions of need I didn't select (as that's how the board fell) were EDGE and S. If Nelson improves then I would make EDGE a priority next year. I think a veteran S (such as Tony Jefferson) would be of more immediate use to the Bucs than a rookie.
Let me know your thoughts!
ROUND 1 (pick 14) - Jedrick Wills, OT
Plug-and-play RT, instant upgrade to the line. Jury is out whether he can eventually move to LT, but if he can, he could be a future replacement for Donovan Smith in due course.
ROUND 2 (pick 45) - Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB
Do-it-all 3-down back who can provide another option for Brady in the passing game.
ROUND 3 (pick 76) - Robert Hunt, IOL
Punishing interior lineman. Potentially could replace Cappa at RG, or push Cappa to RT if Wills eventually moves over to LT. In the short-term, provides necessary depth/flexibility if any of the starting O-line goes down.
ROUND 4 (pick 117) - Rashard Lawrence, IDL
Stout run-stuffer who can help replace Suh next year.
ROUND 4 (pick 139) - Anthony Gordon, QB
Ultra-competitive leader who can learn behind Brady for a couple of years. If isn't eventual starter material, he can be a great backup for long time.
ROUND 5 (pick 161) - Shaquille Quarterman, ILB
Intense, tone-setting linebacker. Eventual successor to Lavonte David, and will when paired with Devin White will give the Bucs a formidable ILB duo.
ROUND 6 (pick 194) - Omar Bayless, WR
Developmental prospect with good size and hands, who can develop alongside Justin Watson and Scotty Miller.
