Dec 31, 2013; El Paso, TXUCLA Bruins linebacker Anthony Barr (11) walks off the field after winning the 2013 Sun Bowl at Sun Bowl Stadium. UCLA defeated Virginia Tech 42-12. Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports Black Monday. Playoffs. NFL Draft. This is a very intriguing time for NFL fans, no matter if your team made the playoffs or not. For those who didn’t, here’s a look at how the NFL Draft could go come time for your teams to pick in May. 1. Houston Texans: Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville The Texans have hired Bill O’Brien as their new head coach. The former Patriots offensive coordinator and Penn State head coach will want a new QB with which to build this team. I think Bridgewater can help Houston contend for the playoffs next season. 2. St. Louis Rams (f/WSH): Anthony Barr, LB, UCLA The Rams could take an OT or trade this pick, but I think the prospect of adding Barr to Chris Long and rising superstar Robert Quinn is too awesome to ignore. Barr can move around the defensive formation and give the Rams another dangerous weapon in the pass rush department. 3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M Johnny Manziel’s hype is crazy right now, and it may well die down before the draft. I won’t compare Manziel to Russell Wilson because they are a bit different, but Gus Bradley knows exactly what shorter QBs with heart and playmaking ability are capable of. Plus, I don’t think Manziel’s height is an issue because he has big hands. The Jags need a new QB. 4. Cleveland Browns: Blake Bortles, QB, UCF The Browns, not unlike the teams in front of them, need answers at the QB position. Bortles went to UCF and took that program to heights even probably he never imagined. Bortles has the mental toughness and grit to help lead this Cleveland team back into the playoff picture. 5. Oakland Raiders: Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina The Raiders have so many needs, and I don’t think they have a quarterback either. They might need to try and trade up with the Rams to jump in front of some other QB needy teams in order to satisfy that need, because it’s probably the most unclear position on the roster. That said, they missed out on what I feel are the top tier of QBs in this mock, so they take the best player on my board. Clowney is a big time talent who would give the Raiders a force off the edge. 6. Atlanta Falcons: Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M The Falcons would love to get their hands on Clowney, but taking Jake Matthews isn’t a bad consolation. As they retool for 2014, they need to make sure Matt Ryan is well protected and that they invest in their most prized asset. 7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson The Bucs aren’t far away from contending for a division title, and I think adding a big play receiver like Sammy Watkins could be just what the doctor ordered. We know Mike Glennon can sling it, and you already have Vincent Jackson opening things up for the Bucs’ #2 receiver. I would love to see Watkins’ big play ability in that Tampa offense. 8. Minnesota Vikings: Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State The Vikings need to start over at QB, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they reach for one. Derek Carr had a huge season but stumbled in the bowl game against USC. It was a tough game for his draft stock, but fortunately for him, the demand for QBs is very high. 9. Buffalo Bills: Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama The Bills upgrade their protection for E.J. Manuel by taking one of the most athletic and physically gifted tackles in the draft. Kouandjio is an absolute beast in the running game, and improving considerably in his pass protection. He’d be a great pickup for Buffalo’s front. 10. Detroit Lions: Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan State Lock-down corner coming from the best defense in college football. The Lions need to force more turnovers and get Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson on the field more often than not. The Lions’ collapse cost Jim Schwartz his job, and I think adding some playmaking ability on the back end of the defense can really help. http://nflmocks.com/2014/01/03/2014-nfl-mock-draft-update-top-20-picks-set/?utm_source=FanSided&utm_medium=Network&utm_campaign=Trending%20on%20FS 2014 NFL Mock Draft Update: 2nd RoundBy Erik Lambert - Jan 4th, 2014 at 12:25 am
Scott Crichton will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft. (Randy L. Rasmussen/The Oregonian) #33 – Houston Texans – Louis Nix – DT – Notre Dame Louis Nix is the best defender left on the board and is an ideal fit for the Houston Texans 3-4 defense. He will help them shut down the run. #34 – Washington Redskins – Ryan Shazier – OLB – Ohio State The new head coach of the Washington Redskins starts off very lucky when he lands speedy vacuum tackler Ryan Shazier with his first pick. #35 – Cleveland Browns – Cyril Richardson – G – Baylor The offensive overhaul continues. Manziel does his best when having good protection. Cyril Richardson will give the Cleveland Browns a presence at guard. #36 – Oakland Raiders – Brett Hundley – QB – UCLA They were bound to take a quarterback at some point and the Oakland Raiders should know all about Brett Hundley. Big, athletic and advanced in his mechanics, he has big upside. #37 – Atlanta Falcons – Kony Ealy – DE – Missouri Needing a pass rusher in the worst way, the Atlanta Falcons get lucky by land the deceptively dynamic Kony Ealy who is a good fit for their system. #38 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Scott Crichton – DE – Oregon State Lovie Smith is a defensive coach and like any of the type he needs pass rushers. Scott Crichton is a perfect fit for his Tampa 2 scheme and is a relentless worker who sets the tone. #39 – Jacksonville Jaguars – Aaron Donald – DT – Pitt Edge rushers are nice but a smart defensive coach understands interior pass rushers are even better. Aaron Donald is undersized by he plays like a cannon ball off the snap. #40 – Minnesota Vikings – Zack Martin – G – Notre Dame Adrian Peterson is still the focal point of the Minnesota Vikings offense, so they have to make sure he has good lane. Zack Martin is physical, smart and consistent. #41 – Buffalo Bills – Jason Verrett – CB – TCU Corner isn’t their biggest need but the Buffalo Bills can’t pass on Jason Verrett. He is an athletic, instinctive corner who plays good press coverage and can take away the ball. #42 – Tennessee Titans – Brett Smith – QB – Wyoming Jake Locker is put on notice. A late riser in the 2014 NFL mock draft, Brett Smith is a dedicated worker with a good frame, arm and highly underrated mobility. #43 – New York Giants – Gabe Jackson – G – Mississippi State Interior blocking became a major issue for the New York Giants and contributed to their running woes. Gabe Jackson plays nasty and has the power to fix that problem. http://nflmocks.com/2014/01/04/2014-nfl-mock-draft-update-complete-2nd-round
I like this mock for us
Pass on WR in the 1st.... We need OL and DE.
We have V Jax and Mike Williams. I'd guarantee 25 out of 32 teams would trade us top 2 wr's in a heartbeat. WR is not a need. We need QB, and DE. A "Move" TE would be great, as would a slot WR.
Watkins is what this offense needs !!! Especially in tedfords system

WOW!!!We have a whole 2 wideouts worth a damn, 1 of them has never gone over 1000 yards and the other may be the most over rated (not saying he isn't good) #1 in the league.Sounds like we're set, CROWN US!!!
To be honest in that scenario, I would trade up for Clowney. Also I would take Aaron Donald over that DE if the top 3 TEs are gone. That dude is almost unblockable.
What a shitty and poorly researched mock draft. First of all, I'm not saying the Bucs do or do not need another receiver, but they clearly have a number two already in Mike Williams which the author completely neglected to mention. Second, the author says that OSU DE is a perfect fit for Lovie's Tampa 2. It's been discussed to death but Lovie isn't coming here to run the Tampa 2. Smfh at these idiots.

+1

Uh. No DE is worth a Top 10 pick besides Clowney, so unless we trade down DE is not worth it at 7. Watkins would add a playmaker to our offense that we lack and haven't had in years. Williams and Jackson are good players but neither are big time homerun hitters.

No it isn't, we have 2 jump ball WRs and nothing else behind them. Losing one of them this season to injury showed us exactly what we have behind them, nothing. WR is a much much much bigger need than a QB because if you don't have someone capable to worry defences if one of your top WRs is injured you end up with what we had last season, blanket coverage and a stacked box. I'm all for Sammy Watkins on our O, move him around and cause mismatches with his speed. As for DE in the second, it's not a bad option if we don't get a DE in FA.

Do me a favor and reread my post because clearly you didn't understand what I said.
I would be OK with those picks if it fell that way. With having the 7th pick we will get talent we just won't have as much control over where. That pick really does need to be BPA. I would prefer a guard at that 2nd pick, but I'm assuming a free agent DE. If we don't get one in free agency I would be OK with one there.

You're crazy if you think WR isn't a need. When Williams went down this year, we might as well had nobody to throw to as Jackson was doubled and even tripled covered a lot of the year. We definitely need another WR and Sammy Watkins would really be lethal in Tedford's system especially with a accurate quarterback throwing to him.I expect the DE need is going to be filled in FA. Now with Frazier on board, I think we probably have a really decent chance of landing Allen and I wouldn't be surprised to see Melton also brought in to play DE/DT.
nitey-100% accurate about the triple or double team. All past years we have tried to draft based need. I wouldn't mind picking up Watkins. DE can be addressed later through FA or later rd picks, especially when Clowney is off the board. Now if its a choice between Clowney and Watkins....that's a situation I would love for us to be in.
