When you pay a guy $16M per year, which is $6M more than anyone else at his position......this kinda stuff happens.

The move still makes no sense. The Bucs have $24 million in cap space so it not like Revis's salary is preventing them from signing anyone. If this team cuts Revis after only one year it would be a huge fail by this team.

You don't know what they want to do. Good chance $24M isn't enough to make the changes they deem necessary. I think people underestimate just how much Lovie/Licht wanna change this roster. They are done evaluating and they obviously don't feel like they can win with this roster. If they need $40M+ and Revis won't restructure....then he has gotta go. Cutting him outright would be very unfortunate, but the fact that nobody else wants him at $16M/yr should make it crystal clear that he is not worth his current cap hit. I know Lovie wants Revis to stay. I'd put money on it....but if they tried to restructure and Revis won't be reasonable, then Lovie has decided he won't start off his reign in Tampa by being held hostage by the last guys' mistakes. His salary is too damn much and the fact that nobody will trade for him at that price should prove it.

Revis's contract has a built in team option to restructure. They can convert any year's salary into a roster bonus at any time and spread his cap over the remaining portion of the deal. We could easily get 10+ million in cap room and still keep Revis. His remaining 4 years would have their cap numbers go up by 2 million each. Easier to swallow when the cap is expected to keep jumping 10 million each season.

Don't forget folks, Alex Mack is still available. He was not franchised, just transition tagged. That means anyone can make him an offer, if he excepts the Browns have 7 days to match....but they don't get anything from us if they don't match it. So he could still be in play for us or any team.

if you think 16mil for a corner is too much, what do think 10mil for a Center is?

Doesn't have to be $10M. That is just what the Browns are on the hook for for one year if nobody makes an offer to match. The highest paid Center in the league is Ryan Kahlil and he averages $8.1M per year. Nick Mangold is right behind him at $7.7M per year. After that it drops pretty quickly. So for Mack, who is considered one of the best, if not the best center in football....we could probably offer him a deal that averages $8.5M to $9M pey year. The Browns might just go ahead and match it. They might not. Wouldn't hurt to try. We have Dotson on the cheap for three more years, and we are supposedly signing Anthony Collins to be LT for about $6M per year....so we have very little invested in the O-line. We could afford to pay $9M for the NFL's best center. Especially when he just turned 28 and has never been injured. Here is a little more on Mack and his situation with the Browns.  http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2014/03/alex_macks_agent_confident_he.html

All I know is we have the money to do it, and if we could get Schwartz or Asamoah at guard, and Mack at center.....then maybe sign Gabe Jackson in the 2nd round. Wow. We would have successfully done a complete rebuild and upgrade on our weak ass interior line, Nicks and Joseph would be a distant bad memory, and we'd be spending a lot less on our O-line.

Based on rumors, looks like Falcons will land Asamoah.

A more important position for less money. It might not be great value, but it's much better value.

Agreed. Center touches the ball every snap and is instrumental for a young QB.

A league source tells the Packer Report that Green Bay, Tampa Bay, New England, and the Giants are free agent Jared Allen's "wish list."Packer Report's Bill Huber allows that Denver could be Allen's "potential fifth suitor." Allen is clearly targeting contender-type teams only, suggesting he is willing to play for less than a premium price. The Buccaneers, Patriots, and Broncos make the most sense because they run 4-3 defenses. Mar 11 - 9:07 AMper Rotoworld

It's what should've been done in the first place. You build in the trenches and go from there. Schiano and Dominik had it backwards.

Steve Smith getting cut today?  And the Panthers owe him $3mil?  He must have pissed someone off.    I would love to not play him twice a year

I don't think we are a suitor. We aren't a contender at all. I think he will go to the Broncos or Patriots.
